A Mormon can easily win the GOP primary.

A Jewish person, a Catholic, a Muslim, or an Agnostic could just as easily win it if they have the ideals and panache to do it. Two of the biggest GOP rising stars right now are Jindal and Haley.......both Indian. No regard to their religion is or should be played. What’s in their head and comes out of their mouths matters.

Malkin is Phillipino (I assume Catholic, no?) and I’d vote for her in a heartbeat.

Religion does not similarly equate to stance on positions and actions in office. JFK was a Catholic and just as “conservative” as many in the GOP race today. Hell, I could vote for him today without pause.

Romney can win the GOP primary. So could a few other people. But I am not, and will not, invest personally in any of them and neither should anyone else lest they become beholden and deeply disappointed. That is all.

I don't know where race came into this - race has nothing to do with it, and as far as dragging Jindal or Haley into this, well Jindal is Catholic and Haley is Methodist or Baptist. If they were Hindu, atheist, Muslim, Mormon, or Scientologist, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have the support they do.

But there is a lot of us that would not support Romney based on religion, because religion does have an impact on your decisions. And for that matter, I wouldn't vote for an atheist, scientologists, or muslim either. Maybe I'm some prejudiced old coot, but I'm just not going to do it. I thought I could and in the past said I could vote for Romney if he somehow won the nomination, but after several recent conversations and some thinking on the matter, I don't think I can. While I believe in the separation of church and state, especially after having been stationed in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, I can't support somebody whose belief system is radically different than mine.

Some may think me a bad person for having such religious views, but that's okay, they are the not the ones who will be judging me when all is said and done.
