“evidently Cain was shown the story before he commented, since he knew what the name of the place was, even though the interviewer didnt tell him.”

Not doubting you, but did any other FReepers notice that?
That would be rather underhanded by Cain, if true.
Cain should have said “I don’t know the details of what you are talking about. Tell the to me, and don’t leave out any significant details to trick me to saying what you want to hear”. In fact before today, it is what I would have expected to hear from him.
I could vote for the guy on that one statement alone, had he done so.
This is disappointing.
Herman Cain lost both his Director of Communications and his Assistant to the Director of Communications, both resigning yesterday. Perhaps that is why he has imploded in the media today perhaps. ????

Well, I don’t know what the full story may have been. He told the interviewer something to the effect that “you don’t dare speak the name of the place [because you’re white, understood], but it was Niggerhead.”
Now possibly the interviewer filled him in before the interview and told him that off the air, or possibly he saw the story and read it. If he DIDN’T see the story, then certainly he had no business attacking Perry until he knew all the details. You shouldn’t go charging in on something like this without knowing them—especially the fact that this was ancient history and that Perry and his father had absolutely nothing to do with naming the place.
