They are not elgible for student loans or scholarships. So no, Perry is not a moron. The article stated Perry opposed e-verify. Maybe so, but e-verify has been used in TX since its conception.

How do I verify your statement is true. What part of the law says these illegals are not eligible for student loans or scholarships?

Actually, they are eligible for some student aid, including scholarships. Especially the ones that some people have set up with their own money.

But Perry does not oppose e-verify, either. He once answered that e-verify for State employees would not make a difference unless we secure the border.

From what I have read, E-Verify is used for state government jobs in Texas, but not mandated for Texas private sector employers to use. I cannot figure out the reason Perry is opposed to it specifically. Although I have run across some articles claiming that E-Verify is 3% in error (or 97% correct), meaning that it could invalidate the I-9 of 3% of applicants using the system in error.

I was hired by Robert Half for a temp job last year in Texas and had to submit to some sort of citizenship check. Not sure if they used E-Verify or not. It was a pain in the ass.

Seems that every significant issue Perry talks about — be it amnesty or e-verify — comes in 31 Baskin Robbins flavors. So by alluding to a particular flavor he can say he is either for it or against it.
