She knows all the dates and she knows precisely what she’s doing.

You’re exactly right.

These compressed dates benefit someone with strong grass roots campaigns as opposed to those who would pound you to death with a protracted add campaign.

Cool and refreshing but it won’t be happening. Though Sarah Palin would make a great EPA commissioner under Rick Perry. To become a hero ever lasting all she has to do is fire every last money grubbing Federale parasite in the EPA

Romney and Perry might want this protracted primary, but both had better be careful what they’re wishing for....lol.

I don’t care if Christie gets in or not. He’s irrelevant to me.

I do still care whether or not Gov Palin gets in. I’m hoping she does. There are 5 debates remaining before the first primary. Some folks say the debates don’t matter because they’re just a series of “gotcha” games. But, it matters to me that my preferred nominee can stand up to overtly hostile media questioning. The inability and unwillingness to do so was one of the biggest failings of the GWB administration, and I’m not interested in an encore. Even if Gov. Perry hadn’t revealed his deal-breaking ideology during the last debate by telling me I have no heart, his rambling incoherence when faced with hostility ruled him out for me.

If Gov. Palin is going to run, I want to see her and Mr. Cain side-by-side on as many debate stages as possible before making a final choice between them.

-- The field of candidates is set now, because there isn't enough time left to file everything for the early state primaries for anyone without a campaign in full swing. --

The filing requirements vary. FL, for example, requires a list be submitted, by the PARTY, not by the candidates. That's it, a list from the party. Seeing as how Palin was VP nominee in 2008, I suspect she can get her name on that list with short notice.

I've checked IL requirements too (need at least 3,000, no more than 5,000 IL signatures on petitions), but not any of the other states.

Participation in (and winning) the primaries provides a commitment of a certain number of delegates at at least the first round of voting during the party's nominating convention. I believe a late entrant (skip primaries before Super Tuesday) can perform the role of "spoiler."

“Under Rick Perry”? LOL.

I don’t think so.

Does bumping up the dates make it an “unconventional” election cycle?

In the General Election (all states) vote on the same day. My use of the words "all states" means all the people in this country from every state votes on the same day.

So why not make it the same day for each state to hold their primaries? I think the voting is skewed when a state or several states that are more liberal or more conservative gets to go first. Thus sealing up the outcome before the other states have a chance down the line.

I don’t know when the drop-dead date is for a candidate to announce and still win the nomination.

I guess that depends upon how many of the early states you feel you can lose and still win enough electors in the remaining states. The deadlines are approaching and until they pass a candidate still has time to enter. Some of the ones approaching include:

Oct. 28, New Hampshire
Oct. 31, Florida
Nov. 1, South Carolina

Of those three I think New Hampshire is the least critical to a conservative candidate.

I'm a Palin supporter although, unlike some other Palin supporters, I don't claim to know whether she'll decide to run or not. I do know that Sarah Palin is an intelligent, politically savvy lady and is well aware of these filing deadlines and what she would need to get on state primary ballots. If she chooses to run in the Republican primaries she'll declare her candidacy as soon as is necessary, which means, October. If she doesn't choose to run, the date she says so won't be quite as critical. Of course, I hope Sarah Palin does decide to run but if not, Herman Cain is my man.

NH just moved their filing date up yesterday. It is now about Oct 15th or there about.

All the 4 early states signed a pact to move up their primaries if Fla moved theirs.

The CNN article is BS because they are using old information.

Rick Perry can comeback and I think he will. Due to Florida moving up its primary we have three other states who will move up even before Florida. The primaries is where Rick Perry stages his return. The only contenders who can raise the big bucks are Romney, Palin and Perry. The others are entertaining but don’t have a chance. Michelle Bachmann was great last nite on Hannity or Greta (I forget) but she can never raise the big money nor can Herman Cain.

I met him in person in Tampa and the guy even kissed me on my right cheek and talked to me for at least 30 seconds which is a long time in a receiving line. He’s very nice but more of a Frat boy than anything else and I guess I’m too heartless to vote for him. He didn’t come across as serious at all. Too bad for him.

“I don’t know when the drop-dead date is for a candidate to announce and still win the nomination.”

It’s already been passed. The nomination will be mostly decided by end of January, unless you see a 2-person slugfest (eg Perry vs Romney) , then it could go a bit longer, like happened with Clinton v Obama. but there will be at most 3 viable candidates out of Iowa, and 2 after NH and SC.

Right now, in the mix, you’ve got Cain, Perry and Romney having a chance. The rest are too far behind. In fact, Cain only has a chance now because Perry stumbled.

There is zero chance of another candidate - including Palin - of getting in now and winning the nomination.
The money, organization, staff and grassroots needs to be there NOW, because there is only 90days until Iowa and 30 more days for the early primaries to be done.

“What I do know is that for every filing deadline not made, that candidate doesn’t get any delegates.”
It’s absurd for any candidate to think they can skip or miss an early state and ‘make it up’ later. Rudy Guliani tried that, skipping NH to wait for Florida, and it was the most amazing failure of a campaign. Zero delegates out of early states gives you zero momentum and zero viability. Campaign dies.

In truth, the window closed months ago, and the media buzz is just noise. Christie isnt running, but if he did, he’s about as needed a Jon Hunstman. Palin isnt running, she blew past her self-declared september deadline, but dont tell her die-hard supporters that, they consider it an attack on them and her to point out what’s become fairly obvious.

I heard three appearances with Bachmann this week. Each of them could’ve happened at any point in her campaign. It was the usual mechanical talking points and no probing questions suggesting the hosts don’t take her seriously. She has created a small box for herself and continues to inhabit it.
