SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) More than 1,000 family members and supporters have gathered in Georgia to say farewell to Troy Davis, who insisted even until his execution that he was innocent.
The Saturday funeral at Jonesville Baptist Church in Savannah opened with a slideshow of photos of Davis in his blue-trimmed prison uniform with his mother, sister and other family members. Speakers at the service include Davis' nephew, Antone' De'Juan Davis-Correia, and the Rev. Raphael Warnock of Atlanta.
The 42-year-old Davis was executed Sept. 21 for the 1989 slaying of Savannah police officer Mark MacPhail. Courts ultimately upheld his death sentence, despite emotional pleas for his life from thousands across the globe.

and if I were the victims family, I would urinate on this POS’s grave.
“Courts ultimately upheld his death sentence, despite emotional pleas”
What the heck have emotional pleas got to do with justice?
Damn AP.
Pushing and instituting social justice negates guilt and allows the criminal who is now made out to be the victim to go free. Nice to see it didnt work here but the cretans who are cuasing this terminal cancer to spread in this country do not sleep.
Well, I’m not family of the victim’s family and happy this POS is burning in hell. Cop-killers are the worst. eFF HIM
I’d be curious to see if Michael Moore attended...
Why did Troy Davis become a cause celebre for death penalty opponents, when these people said nothing about the execution of the killer of James Byrd?
Remember James Byrd was the black man who was dragged behind a truck. His killer, a white man, was executed the same day as Troy Davis. If death penalty opponents truly oppose executions of all kinds, that day was set up to give them a doubleheader sweep of capital punishment happening in America, which they allegedly oppose in all forms.
Yet nothing was said about the killer of James Byrd being put to death. They only had sympathy for the cop killer Troy Davis.
They certainly pick and choose which cases to make a cause celebre. Again, if they really oppose capital punishment for any case, there should have been protests about the killer of James Byrd as well. Just saying.............
I wish the burial would a garbage truck backing up to the prison morgue, opening the trash doors and the body being thrown into it, the compacter actuated and the doors closed. Truck drives off to the city dump to dispose of this seething pile of crap.
Do I have compassion.....HELL NO!
Gosh, wish I could be there to mourn and cry....got my hot onion in my hankerchief all ready.....(sarc). Well at least we’ll be able to see idiots on parade if nothing else. Amazing......:(
Miscarriages of justice are rare, especially in a case like this that goes to the top and holds together all the way. It is the de facto claim of most murderers that they are innocent. These are people who have very little concept of blaming themselves, their problems always come from the hands of others.
The bizarre affection campaign that sprung up around Davis certainly didn't help him come to the place of admitting that he murdered someone. How do you let all those admirers down by telling them they were duped fools?
Glad you posted this......HELLO all you, ahem, mourners.....there’s a picture of a DEAD POLICE OFFICER and you’re dead hero is responsible!! These bleeding hearts with an IQ equal to or lower than my shoe size make me sick!!
“....who insisted even until his execution that he was innocent.”
Not a wise position to maintain when you’re about to meet your Maker! First John 1:9 says “If we CONFESS our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness.” How can ANYONE turn down an offer like THAT?!
It was his FUNERAL. Case Closed
And they will all yell ‘’PISS ON HIS VICTIM’’ in unison.
The 'key' to the 'why' is to delineate properly the 'who'.
That kind of thing only happens to people like this:
John Jack Wheeler III, Former Bush Aide, Regan Official, Murdered
Were any children sacrificed at the funeral?
