I have a Texas rat outside on my patio who is about to become extinct.

I was going to ask what specific type of rat, and how does one hunt it? A .22, flashlight, and barn are all that is required for normal Texas rats. Do I need anything special for the protected one?

Do they mean the wood rat? They don’t last long around my house either.
