What do you want him to say? No in state tuition for illegal immigrants children? If the Republican voters are going to make the in state tuition for illegal immigrant children as the most important issue of the primaries and they are going to ignore Romneycare and Romney liberal positions on so many other issues then they deserve to have a nominee like liberal Romney and live with the disaster of Romney as the nominee to be facing Obama.

every time you give something to an illegal alien, it makes it easier for them to stay here. Take away all the give aways and they will go back to mexico

heck, at this point I’d even settle for a complete flip flop. But he needs to kill this issue one way or the other, or he’s dead in the water.

He can kill this issue. All he has to do is come out in favor of a border fence. Mitt Romney already has. Perry has to get off this "Texas is special" kick where their Mexican border is special because it is just about all defined by a river, the Rio Grand. Fences can be put up along most of that river boundary.  I don't like Perry's attitude that Texans know how to deal with Mexico because they have been neighbors for 160+ years and they have kind of a Tex-Mex culture in Texas

Perry is damn pathetic if he can't even endorse a fence. With the awful jobs situation people are just sick of this Mexican/Central American invasion. Mitt Romney is the real conservative when it comes to the Mexican invasion. Rick Perry is the better conservative over all

Romney’s campaign also points out the similarities between Perry and Obama for building a fence along the entire southern border of the United States, between the U.S. and Mexico. Perry once proclaimed that if you build a 30-foot fence on the border, “the 32-foot ladder business is going to get real good.”

And Obama famously joked that immigration hardliners would “want a higher fence. Maybe they’ll need a moat. Maybe they want alligators in the moat.” Those remarks came at a rally in El Paso, Texas, and brought fire from the Right.

Perry is famously against a border wall separating the two countries, stating at a New Hampshire event that building such a wall would take too long. Perry says he supports strategic fencing in selective areas and increased border patrols.

To negate his illegal alien instate tuition problem Perry has to come out for a fence. This would be acceptable to me. But he is too dumb to do this

They work toward their U.S. citizenship as part of their in-state tuition.

Why can't they go back to their home country and apply for proper immigration? Perry is a flawed candidate and has LOST this issue.

Wifey here's a little advice, why can't you just admit that he is MAJORLY flawed and go from there? Start a post showing us that in spite of the fact that Perry is weak on illegal immigration and border security he is so great in other areas we should still vote for him. Stop peeing down our backs and telling us its raining.

You’ve bought into the bogus lie that it is a “two-man race.”

Don’t believe the media lies, and don’t believe the lies that other candidates are “not electable” and if Perry or Romney don’t win, we get Obama for 4 more years.

It’s bullcrap.

everyone on that stage opposes mass deportations.

Only one on stage favors in-state tuition for illegal aliens. The proponents of amnesty are wont to create the false choice between a blanket amnesty and mass deportation of 12 to 20 million illegal aliens. In reality, we have other choices and alternatives that don’t reward people who have broken our laws with the right to stay and work here and an eventual path to citizenship. The 12 to 20 million illegal aliens did not enter this country overnight and they will not leave overnight. Attrition through enforcement works. We have empirical data from Georgia, Oklahoma, and Arizona proving that it does.

the wall argument is silly

The 2006 Secure Fence Act, passed overwhelmingly by Congress including votes for it by Hillary and Obama, specificed that 750 miles of double fencing would be built. This didn't happen because Kay Bailey Hutchinson, added an amendment to a bill a year later that essentially gutted the bill and allowed the now failed "virtual fence" to be an option. Fences are force multipliers that reduce the need for personnel. There is nothing silly about building physical barriers. We do it for military bases, airports, nuclear plants, government facilities, and the WH.

everyone on that stage wants some sort of guest worker program.

We already have guest worker programs. If we had a merit based immigration system rather than the current kinship system, we wouldn't need even those programs. And we need to crack down on the estimated 8 million illegal aliens hold jobs in this country. Perry has not been supportive of E-Verify, the only candidate that isn't.

mexican trucks.. don’t know, don’t care. Sounds like a union issue to me.

The unions are against it, but so are conservatives. These trucks represent a security, safety, and illegal immigrant hazard. It is part of the globalist utopia that sees the free flow of goods and labor across borders and leading to an EU-like organization in North and South America. Maybe we will even see a common currency.

Just clarifying, because some colleges and universities are also public.

That does not force UT to charge in-state tuition for illegals. Separate issue.

It is not going to happen. He needs to stay strong and expose Romney liberalism on all fronts. He apologized for the “heartless” comment and he may do the apology again. Although I do not think that those who do not like Perry are going to accept his apology.

I don’t see it as the same issue, quite frankly. Being force to provide access is not the same as providing subsidized access.

I like just about everything about Perry except his completely inept response to these attacks.

Letting Romney... ROMNEY of all people get away with attacking him on this is UN FREAKING BELIEVABLE!

It's like Castro or Acmed-ima-nutjob or whoever accusing the US of human rights violations! it doesn't even pass the laugh test! and yet.... Romney is getting away with it! he is actually succeeding in placing himself to the right of Perry by leveraging this issue to his advantage.

Again, I am not mad at Perry because of this issue, I am getting furious at Perry, for his inept handling of this issue.

A Federal Judge yesterday ruled that Alabama can, in fact, ENFORCE every federal law regarding immigration.

Then get the FEDS to fund it and man it! Like they've been asked to do. As they have refused to do.

Since when is “in-state” tuition, free tuition? The last time I checked, it was not free. In-state tuition is just slightly lower priced for those residing in Texas, than for students who don’t live in the state.
