“conservative by nature”

Who the heck are you talking about? Not illegal aliens or their accomplices, for sure.

A Federal Judge yesterday ruled that Alabama can, in fact, ENFORCE every federal law regarding immigration.

I'd suggest you people get cracking!

Texas swagger..........
__________________________________________________________________________________________

You should know that term is a stereotype that is offensive to urban Texans who didn’t grow up on a ranch and have never been a part of any “good ole boy” network.

It’s offensive like the term “loud mouthed New Yorker” is to New Yorkers. Or “nutty and flaky” is to Californians.

Perry is a cheap labor RINO sellout.

THAT! is his problem.

-- You think that they DON'T want U.S. citizenship? Get real. --

What they think and what is an interesting point, but it has little bearing on US and state policy.

My effort was aimed at providing a correct description of "working toward citizenship," so your misleading phrase wouldn't stand. I'm surprised anybody here is still using that "working toward citizenship," because it is pretty well known the affidavit requirement is hollow; depends on federal policy, etc.

"Get real" indeed. Why don't you "get real" yourself, and stick to the point instead of diverting from it?

It is illegal to hire illegal aliens and it is illegal for them to work here.

If you read the actual bill, aka the Texas Dream Act, you will see that there is no age restriction nor do you have to be a graduate of a Texas high school. You can be a 24 year old illegal alien who entered the US at 21, got a GED in Texas, and lived in the state for three years. This crap about the "children" is just more leftist-like propaganda.

These illegal aliens are being subsidized by both Texas and US taxpayers and they take the places of qualified US citizens. Illegal aliens cost the state of Texas $4.7 billion annually.

there's ANOTHER potential unused attack by Perry!

Perry could argue that Plyler v Doe be overturned, which combined with the feds complete failure to deport the illegals is causing the problem to begin with. If we weren't forced to allow the illegals into our k-12 schools, they wouldn't be showing up at college looking for instate tuition!

there are so many ways Perry could be arguing his position on this!

>>A good politician can make any stand on any issue look good, or at least make his opponent look worse on the issue, or at the very least change the subject to something he is strong on or his opponent is weak on.<<

It’s called “spinning.”

The enemy of “spinning” is “the truth.”

The problem with Perry is that there is no way he can “spin away” the truth. Neither can his supporters.

He made his bed by catering to illegals and Hispanics for years and years. That has finally caught up with him, as his record is laid bare to an American electorate.

If you dance, you gotta “pay the piper.”

It is apparently indefensible by HIM or his obviously completely inept campaign!

Because I can guarantee you 100% that a slimy politician like Clinton or Romney would be able to defend it!

It's so aggravating! it's like freaking armature hour!

Perry crossed the Rubicon with his strong defence of the Texas Dream Act. Nothing else he says or does regarding illegal aliens matters anymore.

The Dream Act has become his Tar Baby.

He has put himself into a corner and every word he utters on the issue comes across as a self serving attempt at distracting attention from his position on the Dream Act.

Perry may be the strongest Governor on other aspects of the illegal alien issue but his defense of the Dream Act sucks all the air out of the room whenever the topic is breached.

He is singing to the choir every time he tries to defend his position - The only people who hear his words are Perry himself and those who already support him.

Rick Perry’s problem is the fact that 81 percent of the jobs created since 2007 in Texas have gone to immigrants who arrived here since 2007. Ninety-three percent of these immigrants aren’t citizens and an estimated 50 percent are illegal aliens while the percentage of Americans in Texas holding jobs fell from 71 percent in 2007 to 67 percent in 2011.

Rick Perry is against E-Verify, a simple phone call that reserves the jobs for Americans and LEGAL aliens.

My problem is more with how ineptly he has handled the issue than the issue itself. I actually think the issue might help him in the general, but at the moment it is kiling him, and if you think Romney is going to let up on this your dreaming. Did you see that ad?

The MSM and other GOP Primary candidates and their supporters are trying to make this a "Macaca" moment.

Perry has everyone's attention. As the truth comes out the idea that he speaks the truth and understands the problem will become clear; it will play in his favor (not to mention all those beautiful sound-bites he will now have spoken by the other candidates). It was a hurdle that had to be confronted. Our unsealed border must be sealed -- FIRST.

OK - the real objective is amnesty
legal status
as citizens and taxpayers
college-educated taxpayers
assmiliated educated citizen taxpayers
Doctors and nurses and teachers and CPA’s, not gardeners and maids

the alternatives being?

Deportation? Not gonna happen. Be honest. Look at what it would take and be honest about the will of our political leaders, legal system, and the general society to enforce round up and deportation.

Wall on the border? Remember the Berlin wall? It only worked because the E German government was willing to shoot men women and children to enforce it. You think that will work here? Be honest.

Perpetual illegal status? Unassimilated America-hating barrios, ghettos, gangs and cartels or yet another generation of underclass, here we go. Who wins in the long run and who loses?

Conservatives need to wrap their minds around long term strategic assimilation and make lemonade out of lemons. Game over. 30 million horses out of the barn and giving birth to more little horses every day. No going back.

“... a slimy politician like Clinton or Romney would be able to defend it!”

Yes, but if you are saying the only way Perry can get out of this is to use “slimy politician” tactics...what kind of man would that make him?

He needs to “lie” and “spin” his way out, and we should all vote for him after that? Come on, I know you can’t mean that.

If you are supporting “spinning” aka dishonesty, then count me out. That means you have no integrity and are no better that the Clintonistas.

I agree, but he has to get ahead of this issue. Some how, some way, he has got to get ahead of this, and turn it to his advantage.

The best thing Perry has going for him on this is that Romney is the alternative, because none of the other clowns has a chance in heck. But even that wont save him forever.
