I just finished listening to President Obamas speech at the Congressional Black Caucus dinner and Im still reeling with anger. Honestly, Ive never been more afraid for my country or my people than I am right now.
In his speech, Obama told the mostly black audience;
Take off your bedroom slippers. Shake it off. Stop complainin. Stop grumblin. Stop cryin. We are going to press on. We have work to do.
As writer Charing Ball noted, Obama may as well have said take off your head scarf and wave caps, put away the jug of Kool-Aid and grape drink, stop frying that chicken.
Of course, black people arent wearing slippers. To the contrary, were fighting, without any help from the executive branch mind you, to keep our heads above water in this recession.
But President Obama isnt speaking to us, but about us to conservative leaning independents. Hes speaking to the stereotype that they hold, that African-Americans are lazy critters who arent capable of self-actualization. And it was remarkable to hear Obama bark patronizingly at an African American crowd, then watch the crowd answer in applause. In a word, heartbreaking.
Basically, the most risk averse President in modern history is telling us to put our ass on the line for him. Hes telling us to put on our marching shoes even though he never marched for anything during his days as a community organizer. The only thing Obama knows about marching is what he read under a palm tree in Hawaii, and hes lecturing us?
The man who capitulates at every turn and invalidates progressives as the professional left has the nerve to demand our loyalty? The man who answers the whining of the Tea Party with strong and deliberate action has the nerve to admonish us for our criticisms?
Instead of helping us navigate our way through a Wall St engineered recession, Obama has relegated us to the 1960s. Truth is, if Obama had fought for something- anything- then maybe there would be less of a need to march.
And at least when folks marched in the 60′s, they marched against the escalation of the Vietnam War. Meanwhile, Obama ESCALATES war and wants us to march for him? He wants us to put our beliefs on the backburner for his careerist ambitions? For his legacy? For the continuance of our purely symbolic victory?
For those who are prepared to accept Obamas call to arms, just know that Obama wont have your back. If you strike out marching and get arrested (or worse), Obama will look on you with the same indifference that he looks upon the Occupy Wall. St. protesters. Unlike JFK, who protected black protesters with the national guard, Obama hasnt even acknowledged the Wall St protesters, let alone protect them. He wont help you expunge your record and you wont pass the background check for that new job you had your heart set on. Thats change you can believe in only if youre stupid.
Saddest of all, though, is that Obama would never have told the Jewish community or Wall St. bankers to stop complaining and go march. He is, of course, respectful of and beholden to those constituencies. But he has no problem adding a little base to his voice and chastising us like toddlers.
I know Obamas new to this, but the job of a politician is to ask for our votes, not berate us and give us our marching orders. He works for us, not the other way around. He should get busy doing his job. Maybe if Obama had fought for something other than his own skin, wed fight alongside him. Maybe if Obama honored those who marched during the Civil Rights movement by working on their behalf to save Social Security and Medicare, then maybe Id stand at his side. But Obama is a careerist politician who only stands for himself, and hes a man who defends himself by debasing all African Americans and our legacy.
From where I stand, Obama doesnt even like us, much less have our best interest at heart. This is what a compromised and conflicted black man looks like. Let us learn from this, so as to avoid making the same mistake again. In so far as hope goes, thats all we have to cling to.
That's true. Here's the give away.
Honestly, Ive never been more afraid for my country or my people than I am right now.
We knew when he was elected that he was a divider and not a uniter. If a white writer referred to whites as MY people, you can bet there would be all sorts of accusations.
Abraham Lincoln didn’t give anybody anything.
Almost 300,000 dead Yankee soldiers did.
Amazing. Obama makes a racist speech and who's fault is it? Why, "conservative leaning independents" of course! Conservatives are the ones with the stereotype! That's why Obama said those racist things!
Such rhetorical gymnastics are truly astounding!
If they have two blacks to choose from, maybe some will wise up and make the right choice.
It is ironic that Obama identifies even less with Holders people than whitey. His speech to the CBC sounds like it was written by one of the myriad menopausal white lesbians that make up his “kitchen cabinet”
Proof that Obama doesn’t even read this crap before he says it.
Just load up totus, wind up this skinny little fart and push him out in front of the cameras.
Must be nice
It's clear from her complaints thet she is PO'd at Obama because he isn't far enough to the radical left, not racist enough, not black enough and hasn't done enough for blacks. Did I mention she seems concerned that he doesn't toe the racial line enough to suit her?
The only thing we have in common is that we both breath what is left of the free American air and that we are both PO'd at Obama for something.

Or you can get raw with these strings. Either way, the violin is sweet yet lethal.

Uh oh! A Reb!
Herman Cain should speak to the CBC. Contrast and compare.
Sorry, I misread your post.
My great grandfathers fought with the Yanks in that war. In fact my g g g great grandfathers fought in the Revolutionary War, and the War of 1812. But the presidents who declare those wars and win them are due some credit. . That is meant to take nothing from those who did not survive those wars. They are our heroes.
It’s just that these politicians get far too much credit for issuing a piece of paper declaring this or declaring that when it’s the poor people that have to go out and die to implement their high and mighty ideas.
Slavery would have collapsed under it’s own weight before the 19th century came to a close. Lincoln and everyone else knew this.
What Lincoln was trying to avoid was the humiliation of people standing up to his authority. He arrived in Washington in a disguise, dressed as a woman. He never forgot that. He vowed never to suffer that kind of disrespect again.
Lincoln gave us this gluttonous federal beast which now devours even our progeny.
Shake it off.
Stop complainin.
Stop grumblin.
Stop cryin.
I eat peas and honey.
I eat them on my knife.
I don’t like peas and honey.
But I’ve et them all my life
Really?

As one whose great great great grandfather abandoned his heritage because he did not believe in slavery; (he moved away from the plantation to become part of the underground railway), I believe Abraham Lincoln did the right thing with his proclamation of emancipation. The war was also because the South wanted to secede from the Union, I believe.
I think she’s angry at him because he hasn’t been paying her rent or putting gas in her car
Again, the farm saying translates to real life:
“Why buy the cow...when you can get the milk for free?”
