PROVIDENCE Governor Chafee was already on record as favoring a softer approach when it comes to checking the immigration status of new employees, and he was on record as supporting in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants.
But drivers permits for people here illegally?
He didnt say he supports the idea, but he did say this week that hes looking into it, and in doing so, he touched off a firestorm on talk radio and the Internet. People called the idea an insult and called him out of touch for wanting to reward people who had broken the law. Some said he should be recalled.
On Wednesday, Senate Republicans in the General Assembly said Chafees policies and ideas will only serve to encourage more illegal immigrants to move to Rhode Island.
I find it disappointing with the recent outcry about in-state tuition being granted for illegal aliens to attend our state universities that the governor would now follow up with another proposal to allow for drivers licenses, said Sen. Francis T. Maher, R-Exeter. This is yet another insult to the Rhode Island citizen and taxpayer.

Illegals can get a drivers license in NM. Our new Governor Susana Martinez has been fighting hard to get this law repealed, but the legeslature kills all attempts.
It’s found that most of the illegals use fraudulent addresses to establish “residency”, and do not carry insurance longer than it takes to get the license.
Lincoln Chafee Disses The Tea Party
He says he's a real conservative.........
You think the clueless in NM would see just from this example......... ,http://www.click2houston.com/news/29272520/detail.html
Prosecutors say Liu Yue and her sister rented multiple apartments simultaneously in the greater Albuquerque area for creating residential documents for clients, who were living in New York. She reportedly charged between $500 and $1,000 from each of her clients to obtain a New Mexico driver’s license.
Well, it really is much harder to kill lots of people with a “camel-bomb”...

To meet requirements you must be illegal or it’s a no go.
This is a subject that makes my blood boil! The last time I renewed my drivers license I was confronted with the new Homeland Security rule that said I had to prove that my name was my name. They said Birth Certificate, Marriage License, Social Security #, Electric bill etc. Then when they ran the Social Security section they saw I had been married 3 times. They required copies of ALL marriage lic. and divorce papers. As if that was not bad enough, my mother had divorced my birth father and remarried when I was 3. When they enrolled me in school they did it under my step-father’s name - but he had never adopted me. Birth Certificate didn’t match any record I had. They put me through H__L. Ended up granting me an ‘exception for the 2 prior marriages (I convinced them I was drunk most of those years and not accountable enough to hold on paperwork. Thank Jesus for saving me from all that!) Plus, I had to write to the High School I graduated from and get a transcript showing the name I had then.
This was a few months of nightmare paperwork and dredging up old memories that were better left buried. Not to mentio the costs of long distance calls and $ for copies of files. Then it cost $30
And this with me being a Citizen with records available. How can they be documented?
That’s my story.
Here’s your study Guv:
Once they get a License from one state, they trade it for a License in another state.
From that moment on, they are accepted as “legal”, because nobody will ever contest the valid License.
It’s back door amnesty, no matter how they try to rationalize it.
Ping!
