I am of double mind here. As a human being I am sad he is having to deal with this hideous disease. As a brutal dictator I am glad he is suffering. It gives me a headache.

Can’t say I’m going to miss him. I just wish his buddy, Fidel, had passed away before my ex-political prisoner grandfather who died earlier this year. RIP mi abuelo.

So what does Venezuela look like after he is gone? Of course the sooner the better.

This question will, always, apply to all third world “messes”, possibly forever.

Makes you wonder if that’s really Castro or a double.

It appears that Hugo wasn't told about all the nasty (and potentially fatal) side effects of chemotherapy — organ failure, depressed immune system, etc. If they are able to get his kidneys working again, it is just a matter of time before some other organ fails or he contracts something as simple as the common cold. Common colds have a way of escalating to fatal complications for many chemotherapy patients. Hugo Chavez is dead man walking. My guess is he will be room temperature by December 31st of this year.

Woo Hoo! Drinks on me. Join me in the pub after work. I love to see this sort of good news. I still remember the exhilaration I felt when Arafat met his dog.

Kidney failure, yeah right. The guy has been suffering from brain failure for a long time, and severely damaging his country in the process. It's high time he should quit producing CO2.

Let's get Venezuela back as a vibrant free-market economy. Venezuelans with the means to do that have been underground for a long time and have been hiding their potentially productive wealth offshore. The moment this idiot's metabolism hits the wall, all this pent-up capitalism can turn that country into a major economic force in a couple of years.

You are exactly right. I had a dear friend who went through this agony. (It didn't help that the local cancer care center here screwed-up and gave him nearly twice the dosage he should have gotten. He found this out while he visited his parents in Texas where they had a world class cancer center. His Oncologist in TX went ballistic when he found out.)

In any event, he told me about the affects he'd undergone and the 80 Percent Rule. The first chemo treatment establishes your original baseline. You only bounce back to 80 percent of the original. The second treatment resets the baseline and you only bounce back to 80 percent. Ditto for the third and fourth and out to however many chemo treatments the Oncologists specify. At each reset baseline, you are weaker physically, physiologically, and psychologically. Chemo really hammers you.

Fortunately, in my friend Dave's case, he survived the chemo treatments and has been in remission for nearly 15 years. I saw him go through hell during his treatment and I am really glad he beat the Big “C” for now.

When it comes to cancer it’s just one thing after another until it kills you.

"I hope he gives up his office peacefully."

It's beginning to look like he has no options on this.
