Reporting from Clive, Iowa
Rick Perry's campaign is fighting back forcefully to defend his record and reassure supporters concerned about his shaky debate performances, sending the Texas governor's wife on the campaign trail to explain his position on immigration and holding telephone town halls in which the candidate himself engaged voters on those subjects.During a swing through Iowa, Texas First Lady Anita Perry argued that her husband, who has faced fire about his support for in-state college tuition rates for illegal immigrants and his opposition to a border fence, was being unfairly castigated.
Anita Perry said she had heard such criticism in Iowa and felt she needed to clarify her husband's positions, saying the state offers the benefit to residents of Texas who have attended a state school for a minimum of three years, have earned a high school degree and are pursuing citizenship.

Oh many of them fit the mold you just described for sure, probably most of them. But I’ve seen a good number actually supporting amnesty as the only practical solution, etc.
In other words they are willing to trade what they hope will be Hispanic votes, for amnesty, despite the dangers to America in doing so.

Yea, it’s a HUGE and stupid gamble. Since the very best that we can hope for is to split the vote with the Dems, why on Earth would we ever do it.
As to how to handle the ones that are here. The states have LOTS of options available, or at least the states that are willing to be ‘heartless’, and if those measures got implemented, illegals would find life miserable here and many, if not the vast majority, would go home. That’s how you deal with illegals.

I agree, we have to remove the magnet.
Perry does not support amnesty, his tenure and programs as Gov. of TX has not shown he supports amnesty and his supporters do not support amnesty.
His signing of a legislative bill that granted in-state tuition rights to children of illegals, IF they had at least three years in the State public schools and graduatuated from high school, when ovr 95% of the legislature voted in favor of the bill, should not be translated to mean he’s in favor of amnesty.
Too many others running seem to be more big gov't "conservatives" who want to tweak the existing mess. That's discouraging.
The Perry/Obama debates will be hysterical. Two people with room temperature IQ’s attempting to string two coherent sentences together.
...should not be translated to mean hes in favor of amnesty.

Why does he want illegals to get a tax payer subsidized college education if they can’t work in the US and will have to leave anyway?
Watch the Perry comment again. He was PASSIONATE when he said it.
Start at the 2:40 mark.
