Rick Perry said Wednesday that he was sorry for saying at last week's Republican debate that those opposed to providing an in-state tuition break to the children of illegal immigrants "did not have a heart."
I was probably a bit over-passionate by using that word and it was inappropriate, Perry said in a interview with Newsmax. In Texas in 2001 we had 181 members of the legislature only four voted against this piece of legislation because it wasnt about immigration it was about education.
But Perry stood by his argument that building a fence along the entire Mexican border was unwise. The Texas governor said that the fence would likely be expensive, ineffective and violate the property rights of those who owned land on the border.
In the metropolitan areas where the fencing actually can play a positive role, absolutely, he said. But you have to have boots on the ground
having an obstacle without observation is no obstacle at all. So just the idea of building a fence and saying, That will take care of it, lets just build a fence, has never worked in the history of mankind.

I can't find the answer I was seeking, so I guess he still supports paying tax dollars to illegal aliens.
Perry reminds me of Slick Willie more and more with each passing day.
People are never sorry until you make them sorry.
Maybe we should build prisons without fences. All you need are boots on the ground and that should be enough to keep them out. Right?
Well, apparently you did not watch the video, if you did not find his answer.
Church lady: How conveeeeeeenient.
He’s sorry he expressed what he really thinks SO FORCEFULLY.
Does he think this will make it “go away”?
“Hey, he apologized.”
Whatta fool!
Perry is toast... Cain gets bump
Told ya.
And you rightfully pointed out it was ok, then in his mind to separate people from their property for the corridor.
Go figure.
Romney is leading in Iowa, Penn., and Florida now.
Thanks for doing your part to give us a pro abortion nominee! your doing a great job! Planned Parenthood thanks you!
a little too late, IMO
So what prison requires 1,200 miles of fencing?
HA,HA, like I believe you jerk.
Where’s that kitty picture, “What has been seen cannot be unseen”? Perry’s too late, and doesn’t seem to understand that the reason for the loss in support is not because he insulted all of us, it is because of his whole attitude about illegals. He has sealed his deal. He can never get elected with his outspoken “immigration reform” attitude.
You are sadly mistaken if you think the GOP leadership consists of Romney and Perry, Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
violate property rights of those on the border?? ahem... TTC ring a bell??
So heart is determined by popularity?
He still believes what he said, he just doesn't like that it's hurt his poll numbers.
I am so sick of politicians who say what they think and then apologize when they find out it hurts their approval numbers.
Say what you think and stand your ground. Otherwise, you are a tool.
I will be sitting home in 2012 it seems, since I will never cast a vote for a baby killer.
As I said, planned parenthood thanks you for your conservative purity.
Throw out the slightly imperfect, welcome in the horribly flawed.
I bet you have never posted a single negative comment about Romney, funny how that is.
And who has ever proposed fences alone for border security? No one. It's just one more straw man thrown up by politicians like Rick Perry and others who want no border security.
Effective border security on the southern border will require double fencing, adequate BP and whatever electronic devices can aid them, including drones.
And even the suggestion that any administration would ever put enough "boots on the ground" to secure that border 24/7/365 is nothing but a bad politician's joke.
And personnel one president might put on the border, the next president can remove from the border. Presto! No more border security until the next president comes along who might put more personnel on the border.
Just more ruses like the "Virtual Fence" to avoid doing what everyone knows would greatly improve border control: double fencing, personnel and electronic devices.
