We need to stop this “winner takes all”primary horsecrap
Someone like Romney could win with 20% because the remaining 80% was split up among others?
All democraps have to do is show up and vote for one guy in our RIDICULOUS “open primaries” and any one they select becomes OUR pick
the national GOP is STUPID STUPID STUPID

Romney must have polling data that shows Christie will hurt Perry, but another RINO getting into the race will hurt Romney too. Herman Cain is the one who can celebrate.

Probably safe to say this is false bravado on Romney’s part. After all, Christie would poach more votes from him than from Cain or Perry. Both Christie and Romney come from the mold of socially moderate-to-liberal Northeastern Republicans, although Christie has a more combative personality. But it seems Mittens can afford to be sanguine here, as it appears Christie won’t jump in.

"This is the McCain formula for the nomination. As we know, it nominated McCain but he could not win the general."
but this is what makes romney so different. Romney got the conservative vote against McCain. Ann Coulter supported him and Laura Ingraham said he was the conservative's conservative. You can't get much better than that, right? Romney talked about having all 3 legs of the stool. That was in 2008.
He comes back and is now getting Perry over immigration. Many people will shout out "Yeah! Romney, you go get that illegal loving Perry!" And Perry responds "uh...today Romney was ummm for race to the top when ummm yesterday he was for umm Roe vs wade or something..."
So yes, Romney will split conservatives while he gets the rino's but it is much more complicated than the McCain strategy.

Romney needs to break up the anti-Romney vote. As Perry fades Romney is realizing that none of Perry's support will ever go to him. The votes are going from Perry to Cain, or some other candidate. But none to Romney. So Mitt needs a lot of “Not Romneys” out there. One on one Anyone but Romney will beat Romney every time. Against five candidates of equal strength his 25% support makes him the front runner. One on one he gets beat double digits.
For Romney's plans Perry and Bachman self destructed too fast. They were supposed to split South Carolina and Iowa allowing him to take New Hampshire. Then he would use his larger war chest to fight in the multi-primary battles later on. But Bachman is now a non factor. Perry is falling apart. Cain is starting to look like a real candidate and he negates Romney's main strength, that he has business experience. Cain has that and more but without all the baggage Romney brings to the table. So Romney needs another candidate like Christie, who wins Iowa, but would have trouble in the south, to break up the GOP vote.
