If you read science fiction, all the post-apocalypse “life boat” scenarios count grandmothers and aunts as vital as breeding men, just under breeding age women and the children. That’s because grandmothers have skills to pass on, and are better known for assisting younger generations than for harm.
On the other hand, we have all the old men who can’t sit through more than an hour meeting due to their enlarged prostates.
