“She was on a few short lists to take TOTUSs spot should he pull an LBJ and back out of running in 2012...now shes dead meat, politically.”
Really? Then why would she publicly suggest this?
ilovesarah2012:
“This is satire, right? Or did Obama tell her to say that? Shes not smart enough to come up with it on her own.”
Texas resident:
“Ive been wondering when a dimrat would suggest this and who would be the first. Ok, the ice has been broken.”
Art in Idaho:
Is this to get the idea out there so when Obama does it, it’s “for the good of the country?” Don’t even think about it. . .

Its a test maketing program designed by Axelrod

The Repubs (but not Conservatives) always underestimate the one talent the Dems have -— their goosestepping coordination of talking points and their selection of one or two useful idiots to set off a trial balloon to get an idea floating out there in the ether.
I can’t fathom that this idea originated from her. The stench of it too much like the Dems MO. She was told to put it out there.
Any Freepers from NC care to weigh in? Those were not “kidding” suggestions. Is your Gov so off the reservation? or has she proven to be an obedient goosestepper in the past?
The link to the Raleigh News & Observer now has this headline:
Perdue jokes about suspending Congressional elections for two years
Was that the original headline? Because now they have an UPDATE and a comment regarding a “late afternoon clarification.” -— AFTER Bed_Zeppelin posted the thread.
From the Raleigh News & Observer article:
“The comment — which came during a discussion of the economy — perked more than a few ears. It’s unclear whether Perdue, a Democrat, is serious — but her tone was level and she asked others to support her on the idea.”
It is absolutely 100% is a trial balloon. We have now confirmed what many of us suspected.
As to suspending elections, it cannot be done. There is no provision in the Constitution for such a thing. Those that hold the offices have no power to lengthen their terms other than by winning the constitutionally proscribed election for their office. Their offices are created by the Constitution, and attempting to override that document negates their claim to any authority. At that point it becomes a coup.
Should they do so, at the last day of their term the office becomes VACANT, and their title ceases to exist. Any govt functioning after that would be illegal and have the status of a foreign invading power, able to be terminated with extreme prejudice and without trial.

Chris Plante (WMAL out of Washington, DC) just covered Perdue’s comments and said that the News & Observer article headline WAS changed from the original to this:
Perdue jokes about suspending Congressional elections for two years
The Daily Caller posted an update to their article, but did not mention that the News & Observer had also changed their headline:
UPDATE 5:17 p.m.:
Perdue press secretary Chris Mackey claims the governor was joking when she made the comment.
Come on
Gov. Perdue was obviously using hyperbole to highlight what we can all agree is a serious problem: Washington politicians who focus on their own election instead of whats best for the people they serve, Mackey said in an email to TheDC.”

Gov. Purdue’s full comment:
“You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things. I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won’t hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that. The one good thing about Raleigh is that for so many years we worked across party lines. It’s a little bit more contentious now but it’s not impossible to try to do what’s right in this state. You want people who don’t worry about the next election.”
