More accurately - “...For Our Security and National Sovereignty”
America created the international system with the United Nations as its principal institution.
We all know that relations with Israel are a key component in America’s foreign policy, but American foreign policy is not all about relations with Israel. The United Nations is the best forum for managing relationships with a wide range of nations ranging from Brazil in Latin America to Botswana in Africa to Bhutan in South Asia.
The rise of China makes increased diplomacy with all corners of the globe more, not less important. For example, the peace settlement between North and South Sudan would not have been possible without the fora provided by the United Nations General Assembly and Security Council. The same applies to East Timor.
Secondly, there are 48 majority Muslim countries in World. Naturally these nations would be opposed to whatever Israel does. By a quirk of Geology, these nations hold the majority of the World’s proven Oil and Gas reserves. America must conduct diplomacy with these nations until it becomes totally energy independent.
Mark my words, America would be a lot worse off without the United Nations.
