PHILADELPHIA -- One week after suffering a concussion in a rough-and-tumble loss to the Falcons, Eagles quarterback Michael Vick broke his right hand on what he considered a late hit in Philadelphia's 29-16 loss to the rival New York Giants.
The hit in question happened in the third quarter when Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty delivered a hard shot on Vick after the quarterback completed a 23-yard pass to Jeremy Maclin.
"I was trying to protect myself," Vick said in his postgame news conference. "Still didn't get a flag and that's pretty much been the story for the last three weeks. I mean, obviously at some point something catastrophic is going to happen and I broke my hand."
It appeared on replays that Canty hit Vick in the facemask with his helmet. Vick sat on the ground, lifted his helmet off slightly before getting helped up by a teammate and an official.
"Looking at the replays, I'm on the ground every time, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't frustrated," Vick said in his postgame news conference. "The refs have got to do their jobs. And I mentioned it to the refs in training camp when I talked to them. I'm on the ground constantly, all the time. Every time I throw the ball, I'm on the ground. And I don't know why I don't get the 15-yard flags like everybody else does."

NOTE: if Canty really did pull a deliberate dirty play and try to cause an injury, the NFL should sit him down for a year. I don't condone that, even against Vick.
Life is tough on running quarterbacks in the pros. I’m surprised he lasted this long.
He’s been complaining all year that the refs don’t call roughing the passer when he is the passer. I wonder what percentage of NFL refs are dog lovers.
Those years in prison did not seem to tough him up.
That’s, counting, three broken Vick hands on FR!
By his own rules if he aint tough enough to play/fight perhaps he needs to be euthanized
Nonsense. Late hits happen multiple times per game in the NFL. And I saw this particular hit -- it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. At most, Canty and the Giants should've been charged with a 15 yard personal foul penalty. But it was boderline, so I have no problem with no flag being thrown at all.
Maybe they should get a good offensive line that keeps him from getting hit so much.

I am a dog lover. He gets no forgiveness from me.
His coaches failed to "steal" smaller players from other teams to "blood" him. That would have made him meaner. I guess it's time to either body slam him or shock him to death with an electrical cord.
I didn’t see the play and modified my comment with an “IF.” I agree that penalties are the proper punishment for most late hits. My point was that, if someone tries to deliberately injure someone, far greater punishment is deserved than a 15-yarder. I don’t suspect that such is the case here. Hope that clarifies it.
The problem rests as much, or more, with Vick as it does with the offensive line.
The best NFL quarterbacks are the ones who make the right decisions quickly, get the ball out of their hands quickly, and consistently throw very accurate passes.
Vick does none of these things well. His strength is using his athleticism to extend out plays and allowing his receivers to get open. It's a recipe for hitting some big plays, but it's also a recipe for getting carted off the field a lot.
Vick is a great athlete, but he is simply not a great quarterback in the way that guys like Peyton Manning, Brady, Brees, and Rodgers are.
I always felt that they should apply the rule that if a player commits two personal fouls in game, they should be immediately tossed from the game, and suspended for the next one.
Sorry. I almost always do a check before I post. I apparently screwed up and didn’t check this time. Vick could not have three broken hands but a dog in his charge could have had three broken paws.

In spades!!

Imagine the commentary if this had happened in the Dog Pound of Cleveland.
The old timers played when players where not nearly as big and fast, and they tended to tackle in the proper manner, wrapping up the runner with their arms, instead of launching into them.
