To listen to the recent Republican Presidential debates, you'd think illegal immigration was the biggest threat to the U.S. economynot to mention to the rule of law, our social fabric and national security. We hate to spoil the political reverie, but the real immigration story these days is how many fewer illegal migrants are trying to get into the land of the free.
That's the news from the Department of Homeland Security, which reports that border apprehensions have dropped to their lowest level in nearly 40 years. For fiscal 2010, arrests were 463,000, down from 724,000 in 2008a one-third decline in two years.

Repeating a lie over and over will NEVER make it so. Rewarding bad behavior is NEVER a good idea. Making the illegals miserable and unwelcome is the way to go. Make their life utter hell and they will go home or move to another state. That is making the best of a bad situation.
Over 70% of illegal immigrants in TX are on welfare. The few employers are so happy to have so much cheap, taxpayer-subsidized labor that they are gladly pay off pols like Perry who make sure to keep it that way.
The local Wal-Mart near my house in Memphis is called Mexi-Mart by almost everyone I know. Memphis is in the center of the country and we are overrun with Mexicans. Why is this NOT a problem?
Utter bullshit. That's exactly what you and other RINOS & democrats are advocating.
I have come across literally thousands of immigrants who have come here legally and are very productive citizens. I especially favor people who are educated in medicine, finance, science & engineering. Knowing what these educations cost in US, it is a free gift to our country when they arrive. If you examine post graduate students in any major university in United States you will be amazed at the percentage of students from foreign lands. These spots could have been filled with American born students, but for some reason they are not. Obviously many Americans do not aspire to study hard and advance to the highest level of knowledge to be gained in post-graduate college.
So we need all the brain power we can get. We will not be a great country without people with highly developed skills.
The WSJ has ALWAYS been an illegal worker advocate.
OK I confess I got that 100,000 number watching the debates.
But the real issue is not the exact level of benefit, the issue is ANY benefit after breaking laws of our country.
border apprehensions have dropped to their lowest level in nearly 40 years.
Key word here is ‘apprehensions’.
Somewhat of a lie, I say.
Yeah, let those weed growers come on in. It’s easier then sneaking it over the border.
Probably safer growing here then in Mexico. Not so many heads laying around...SO FAR.
Plus I wouldn’t be afraid to bet our lawmakers have been warned and are afraid of the cartels. Pretending to do their job...wink, wink
They manage to get some weed area taken down but hardly ever an arrest.
How about that.
Every few years around here some entrepreneur comes out with an asparagus-picking machine. Never works out.
E-Verify is a harbinger of the total police state. It won't work except to put a computer belonging to the Federal government in control over who does or does not get to work.
It's too much power.
That said, a bounty system, with stiff penalties for false arrest and detainment, would clear the streets of illegals in a heartbeat. It's even Constitutional as a letter of marque. It is yet another reason why we have a Second Amendment. Moreover, I would be delighted to see a citizen arm of law enforcement, realizing the essence of self-government. Those who scream "Vigilantism!!!" should read the history of how well it worked in San Francisco to rid the city of its corrupt and incompetent ruling class.
They used women because they are closer to the ground.
I even saw a farmer whose little tractor had broken down hitch up his woman to the plough to do the furrough for the first planting.
Seems to me the Germans know a thing or two eh!
The number of arrests are down because they just dont arrest anymore. They detain and release.
LOL, you don't trust the agency whose head consistently states that the border situation is under control and everything is hunky dory?
And usually Her blatant BS statements are either preceded by, or followed by, a report such as: Texas ranches being overrun, headless bodies hanging from bridges, Mexican authorities "mistakenly" crossing over the border without permission, tourists shot and killed on a border lake, etc.?
LOL, You're such an untrusting, racist, and heartless person, clearly a Crazy ole coot.
I reported you to AttackWatch.com, cause you need watching.
Let's go a step further ~ issue letters of marque to some of the states to enforce federal immigration law IN OTHER STATES!
Considering the problems USPS has issue them a letter of marque to enforce federal immigration law in the absence of action by other federal agencies.
Might as well report me for the same reasons too....:oP
That can be done too. The key is this: Article I, Section 8 gives CONGRESS the exclusive power to issue a letter of marque. It does not require Presidential approval.
George Mason University in Fairfax County Virginia gets caught doing that with some regularity.
The successful candidate finds issues that attract voters from the other party. If he or she doesn't do that, then the other candidate wins.
Real Conservatives have some serious problems WITH ALL OPEN BORDERS SLAVERS and their running dog lackeys.
