In a severe embarrassment for the Republican presidential frontrunner, businessman Herman Cain tripped up Gov. Rick Perry in a straw ballot of Florida Republican activists Saturday.
The vote has no bearing on the choice of a 2012 nominee but, along with recent campaign events, is likely to increase the chances that the Republican presidential contest will tighten. It comes on the heels of a poor performance by Perry in a Florida debate Thursday night that disappointed conservatives, including delegates who came to Orlando expecting to back the Texas governor.
Cain received 37% of the vote, more than twice as many as Perry, who made by far the most extensive effort, but finished a distant second with 15%. He barely edged out Mitt Romney, who did not compete here, at 14%.

Very absurd. Romney would not do that. Regardless I am thrilled with the results.
How do straw poll results affect anything really?
Well for one thing. He is my number one choice. If Sarah announces she will of course but for now I can proudly pull the lever for a real conservative. This is a day to celebrate. I prayed for this to happen so badly. Thank you God!!!!!!
Perry is really going to go off on the conservatives now. He called us heartless last debate. I can only imagine how insulting he will be the next debate. There might even have to be a beeper ready for his wrath on the conservatives. We might be happy with being called heartless when he is done with us next debate. Battle the hatches.....you know Perry is PISSED!!!!!! Those damn Tea Party Conservatives....how dare they punish me for simply loving the aliens.....As God as my witness......I will slaughter the conservatives and strike them down......lol. It is funny but partially true for sure.
Cain needs to watch his back.
Dang right. The Perry patrol will be on him like bees to honey.....watch his back is an understatement. We just ruined the coronation and I LOVE IT!!!!!!
I can throw my support behind anyone but Romney.
I can throw my support behind anyone but Romney, Perry, Ron Paul, and Utah Gov. (forgot his name). I ranking is: Palin, Cain, Bachmann and Santorum. Of course I would be thrilled with any of the four in any P/VP scenario. Gingridge is just to keep the debates from getting out of hand.
No, Romney would not do that. But given that this must be a very bad day in the life of a Perry supporter I can see how they could talk themselves into believing just about anything.
Where have all the Perry supporters gone??????? /snicker
Actually I would rather Newt become the Press Secretary.....now that would be fun.
Excellent point. Why on Earth did she go after Perry and not Romney? She hasnt even put herself in contention for a VP slot.
You still on that Francis. Really there is a new sheriff is in town and that is Cain. Perry had his 15 minutes of fame that was up a loooooooooooooooooong time ago. Time for him to get back to Texas and continue giving out those bennies to the aliens. From his heartfelt speech, he clearly missed it.
How'd you get that null character in your post?I can copy/paste it from your post, but it's not a standard ASCII character as far as I know.
Cain/Jindal
Cain has been my number one for a while now.
Jindal is not a Natural Born citizen any more than Obama is or Rubio is. It takes Natural citizenship... meaning there is just US citizenship as a possiblity. That person is naturally a citizen of the US because they were born here and their parents were also citizens. John Jay spoke of this in letters to George Washington while advocating for a stronger check on the office of the Presidency - meaning that the framers of the constitution should make sure that no foreign influence be present in the highest office in the land.
Jindal and Rubio both were born to immigrants who were not citizens at the time of their birth. The same is true of Obama. We cannot allow another man into the White House who is not a Natural Born Citizen, it weakens our Constitution to the point where congress feels like it can pass any unconstitutional legislation it chooses to and get away with it. Sorry, those are both good men, but they cannot run for or hold the office.
You can secure the border in a more cost effective fashion than blindly building 1,900 miles of fencing that does not alleviate the additional needs in manpower and assets.
Of all the things, I'd think Tea Partier would understand government should be about providing the best return on the tax dollar.
LMAO!
Cain tweeted he’s already raised $25K+ since the win.
Agreed - if Cain is the nominee I am an activist. Anyone else, I could care less.
