Chris Christie Reconsidering 2012 Run,
News Max ^ | September 23, 2011 | Jim Meyers

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reconsidering his decision not to enter the 2012 presidential race — and he says he will let top Republican donors know within days about his plans, Newsmax has learned.

During the past few weeks, several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican governor to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.

These Christie supporters note that significant GOP support has remained on the sidelines of the primary fight. Many leading fundraisers have yet to commit to any current primary contender, including frontrunners Rick Perry and Mitt Romney.

Newsmax has learned that the effort to draft Christie culminated in a hush-hush powwow held in the past week with Christie and several notable Republican billionaires.

A source familiar with the meeting suggested that Christie seemed inclined to enter the race but said he needed more time.

Christie promised to make a final decision "within two weeks," the source said.

Another source involved in GOP fundraising tells Newsmax that that uncommitted fundraisers and donors have been receiving phone calls from top political aides to Christie, seeking their feedback about his possible entry into the race.

Earlier this week Christie hinted at the effort to draft him w when he spoke at a special forum that included Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels.

Christie suggested to an audience at New Jersey's Rider University that the current GOP candidates are not answering the public's appetite for real leadership.

"I think what the country is thirsting for, more than anything else right now, is someone of stature and credibility to tell them that and say, 'Here's where I want us to go to deal with this crisis,'" Christie said.

Putting a Muslim Judge on New Jersey's supreme court is a huge question in my mind....his health problems another. None of the candidates are addressing the biggest $$$$$$ out flow and that is government WASTE plus the United States aid to countries like Palestine who are determined to push Israel into the sea....Congress has approved a $53 billion bill to fund the State Department and foreign operations with the Lion Share going to Palestine...again. De-fund Mahmoud Abbas immediately....it is criminal for Americans to fund Hamas and other terrorists in the area. This is political waste beyond any doubt....NETANYAHU is spot on with his 'Theater of the absurd'...America must support little Israel from the thugs and 'crime lords' who seem to run that part of the world....fight terrorism is the goal, it is absurd to pay Hamas! If Chris Christy, Mit Romney, Rick Perry, or Michelle Bachmann would tackle the waste problem and aid problem....I would begin to believe this group is not your every day politician who talks the talk but leaves his shoes in the closet.

I hope he doesn’t go for it.

He’s doing a pretty good job in New Jersey. I’d like to see him put Jersey on a more permanent footing.

He’d take votes from Romney that’s for sure.

That’s a good thing.

I don’t think I want him for president but if he takes Romney down, I’m all for it.

I do hope he decides real quick, the...maybe I will...maybe I won’t...bugs me.

Bring them all on. Palin too. The more the merrier. What is happening here is that the money will dry up after the primary season, and there will be very little left for the general election. Where as Obama will have almost a billion dollars without having to go through a primary fight.

"I think what the country is thirsting for, more than anything else right now, is someone of stature..."

Stature, not girth, please don't confuse the two, fatkin.

Jersey needs a lot more help. Cape May is one of my favorite vacation spots. Especially the light house after coming over the Lewes ferry when I get back from Chinkoteague. I probably spelled that wrong.

No way fat boy.

You have shown bad judgement more than once, the least of which was your fly over to your sons baseball game using public funds and assets.

That’s because New Jersey was so far in disrepair.

If he could stay for two terms, and really bring up its standings within the fifty states, he’d be almost a shoe-in for presidential candidate.

Mind you, I don’t know if he’s done more changes than the NJ residents like and maybe that’s why he’s considering moving on.

Don’t know.

Let’s not get distracted or stampeded. Christie is good on State employee compensation and State spending in general. We have no idea or else negative indication regarding how he is on national security, immigration, global warming, right to life, strict constitutional constructionism, regulatory reform, tort reform, etc.

We can’t just assume that any new alternative is better than what we’ve got.

How far did he have to fly?
What was he doing around the time of his son’s game?

If he was busy governing, or had to go out of state, I’d be fine with him flying. We can’t expect our elected officials to not have lives while they govern and, if there was an important business to attend to around that time, would you be happier if he didn’t do his job, and instead went to his son’s game?
