EXETER, N.H. Rick Perry is struggling.
Republicans in early voting states, once excited about the Texas governor's presidential bid, are openly questioning the strength of his candidacy. High expectations have been met by the sudden national scrutiny that comes with the front-runner bull's-eye.
Perry is leading national polls, but he is also facing intensifying criticism from the right and left. Some Republicans in Iowa and New Hampshire are expressing doubts, especially after debates in which rivals raised questions about his record on immigration, public health and Social Security.
One national immigration group says Perry is finished. Conservatives are slamming his support of education benefits for illegal immigrants.

Too many Texas voters with ties to Mexico?
Si, muchos!
Perry’s not just pro-ILLEGAL alien, though he certainly is. But he goes one further and criticizes those who do not agree with him.
You’re heartless!/s
Assuming that the field stays just as it is, with no other additions, I really dont see a reason to panic that its seems to be a choice between Perry and Romney. At this very time in 2008, Huckabee and Fred Thompson where the top two, and nobody seriously thought McCain would be the nominee. And when McCain was the winner, there was a suicide watch on most Freepers until he chose Palin, which brought a whole new level of excitement not seen before.
If you are going to be a political junkie you got to learn patience and perseverance
As sad as that is it is the truth. Perry can say or do anything and they will defend him.
Perry is the new Rudy. Flash in the pan—then gone. I look forward to president Mitt Romney—Not my first choice but better than nothing. Lets hope he names Sarah Palin to the job of Sec. of State.
Look at poor Arizona and New Mexico - one is governed by a heartless honky (Jan Brewer) and the other by a heartless Hispanic (Susana Martinez). And Martinez continues to impress big time.
I was being a “compassionate conservative”. LOL
Tell me about it.I was driving back and forth to Austin to usher through enforcement bills...arriving in Austin to testimony rooms filled with illegals/translators,false church pastors and separatists. Veterans and Americans were frequently last in line to speak.
I’m not even mad at Perry anymore. I just want him to deal straight like a real man of courage:
PERRY, DO YOU WANT US TO INTEGRATE WITH MEXICO OR DO YOU WANT US TO BE A SEPARATE SOVEREIGN NATION?
Perry is part of the establishment. Geeze.
Brewer and Martinez have most libs upset.....and that’s a good thing.
I was being a compassionate conservative. LOL
You were right on the button, too.
Perry is “adios”.
Interesting article, interesting thread. Thanks for posting and thanks to all posters.
Read every post BUMP!
Perry took himself out. He shot himself in the foot with that attack on 81% of the electorate last night. I imagine that many Perry supporters (I was one) will still hang in there, flailing about, blaming everyone except the candidate himself for his downfall.
Barring a late entry by Sarah Palin, might I suggest one “Herman Cain?”
Interesting little video there, isn't it?
Perry couldn't handle a softball question from a liberal cub reporter and he is the man so many here are hoping can defeat Obama?
No thanks.
