Senate rejects House approved funding bill (So who is the Party of NO now?)
Hotair ^ | 09/23/2011 | Jazz Shaw

Posted on 09/23/2011 12:13:53 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

The first observation I noted on Twitter about this breaking story was, “So who is the Party of No now?”

After we FINALLY got a continuing resolution out of the House to keep the government running past the end of the month, the Senate has turned around and rejected it. I don’t know how this movie ends, but I’m fairly sure it’s going straight to DVD.

The Senate on Friday rejected the GOP-led House’s bill to avert a government shutdown, intensifying a partisan standoff that many in Congress hoped to avoid. The vote was 59-36.

Democrats in the Senate, who are in the majority, oppose Republican efforts to roll back “green” energy programs to pay for aid for victims of Hurricane Irene and other disasters. They say disaster aid, usually a bipartisan issue, should not require cuts elsewhere — especially to programs creating green jobs — as the GOP majority in the House now demands.

The two sides are racing the clock, as the Federal Emergency Management Agency is expected to run out of disaster money Monday.

Welcome to the Party of No Club. (TM) So we came within a few inches of actually having you all do your jobs and keep things going and you decided to play tit-for-tat and shoot down the bill to hang on to a pool of money for a “green jobs” incentive program which was largely going unspent anyway? Oh, my.

Now we have Reid calling for a new vote Monday evening, even though Congress was supposed to be in recess by then. What is going on here? Discuss.

Sounds familiar.

How is Boehner going to meet with Obama to craft another crap sandwich compromise(sellout) bill when Obama is busy on the road on his “Tax the rich to give you all jobs” tour?

For those who don’t know, regarding FEMA,

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2011/sep/23/senate-blocks-emergency-disaster-money/?page=1

The House, on the strength of Republican votes, passed a bill early Friday morning that directs an additional $3.65 billion to FEMA, with some of the spending offset by cuts to a clean-energy program popular with Democrats and the Obama administration.

They pleaded with Mr. Reid to pass their bill, arguing it is the only version that can be signed into law before Monday, when FEMA money could run dry.

“Harry Reid is holding a bill up with full funding for what is needed right now for no reason — for no reason but for politics,” said House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican. “This is why the people just don’t have the respect for this institution and this town anymore.”

But the Senate, led by Democrats and joined by some conservative Republicans, tabled that measure, 59-36.

Can someone get us a list of those Republican Senators who voted to table the House bill?

We should be melting those Republicans’ phones.

A good reason...but not the ONLY reason!!!

“We should be melting those Republicans’ phones.”

Without even knowing why they voted no? Does the whole Budget revolve around FEMA? I think not.

No Thanks.

Is it possible for the house to take the bill that the senate passed, keep the name and number and change all of the details to the bill that the house had previously passed and then send it on to the president?

Democrats in the Senate, who are in the majority, oppose Republican efforts to roll back “green” energy programs to pay for aid for victims of Hurricane Irene and other disasters.

Democrats have broken new ground in tortured logic: (1.) They polluted the disaster relief bill with a green stimulus boondoggle, and (2.) blame the GOP for blocking the raiding of the treasury to pay for it. (3.) Then they try to pass it off as the GOP blocking disaster relief.

Very interesting vote.

The TEA Party Senators voted 'AYE!'.

What's up there...? Are they looking to force another showdown?

Videoconference ?

In an interview Boehner said that during the debt limit deal he locked some wet-nose freshman in his office and told them they are prisoners until they agree to vote for the compromise, and they did give in naturally, I saw the clip.

RE: What’s up there...? Are they looking to force another showdown?

They have their own peculiar reasons, which is this -— THE BILL DOES NOT CUT FAR ENOUGH !!

Likewise, many if those on the far left don’t favor it because it does not SPEND enough.

Strange allies we’re seeing here...

RE :”As far as I am concern the people of Nevada are responsible for allowing Reid to stay in power to further destroy this nation.”

Sharon Angle didnt help things, she lost a cant-lose race. Reid was very unpopular there last year.

When your state has the highest unemployment and forclosure rates in the country it is best not to call those who you need votes from ‘soft’ for being unemployed.

Then she told a Hispanic kid in elementary school class on camera something like “I thought you all were Asians”

My sister and brother in-law in NV are die hard Reid hating born Again Christian Republicans, and she told be they were ashamed to tell people they voted for Angle. Angle had become a state wide joke.

I have a couple of friends in Vegas who say the same thing.

No. Both chambers must pass the same exact language.

At the same time, either chamber can take what it's given, and completely change it, except for the bill number.

I would be more ashamed of voting for Reid, but there is something to be said for nominating someone who has a better change to win.
