Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano today traveled to New York City and honored the memory of Richard Rescorla with the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Distinguished Public Service Medal, the Department's highest honor, for his heroic actions on September 11, 2001.
"Since the 9/11 attacks, we have seen exceptional models of resilience all around us," said Secretary Napolitano. "By honoring Richard Rescorla with the Distinguished Public Service medal, we remember his heroism and commitment to the preparedness of the thousands of employees under his watch."
On September 11, 2011, Richard Rescorla was Second Vice President for Security at Morgan Stanley headquarters located in World Trade Center Tower 2. Richard led a massive evacuation of Morgan Stanley's 2,700-person workforce located in the South Tower, contributing to the survival of many of his coworkers.

Because of his tireless efforts, nearly every Morgan Stanley employee safely evacuated the South Tower on 9/11. And while Rick could have joined them, he continued to help others evacuate the building and ultimately gave his life. Ricks wife Susan and his son Trevor accepted the award on his behalf.

Thanks for sharing this tribute to genuine hero. Service above self.
Only ten years.
Why the rush?
If there was just TWO heroes of 9/11 - they would be Richard Rescorla and John O’Neil. Both died at WTC and both warned of terrorist intentions ...
PBS Frontline had a GREAT 9/11 documentary about O’Neil called, “The Man Who Knew” ...
it’s election time
Thanks for finally getting Something RIGHT!

Every few days over a beer I ponder great men. Rick is always on the list. People say there are no heroes left. Rick was a first order hero.
Hey Ronnie! How are you doing?
Sis you are disgusting. You shouldn’t even be allowed to utter Rick’s name.
OK, this guy did good. What does it have to do with Nappy-head Napolitani and an agency that didn’t exist at the time?
Wonderful.
Thank you Janet Napolitano.
R.I.P. Rick Rescorla, America’s finest. Thank you, sir. Thanks and condolences to family and friends of Rick Rescorla.
Agreed.
If the President had presented this medal, one could look at the office, and not the man. It should have been the President, as a matter of fact.
But DHS - that nest of PC and busywork bureaucrats - and that woman - feh.
