Meningitis is different than HPV. The HPV vaccine was never proven to help HPV, and you have other options. HPV is not short-term. Not everyone is given a meningitis vaccine. You get the meningitis vaccine if you already have it. It’s too risky to not get a vaccine if you have meningitis.

The lengthy process is good. We shouldn’t have children vaccinated if the vaccines haven’t been tested for side-effects. The HPV vaccine is not necessary.

You seem to think that I am opposed to RECOMMENDATIONS ... or to VOLUNTARY imunization. I am not. I am against MANDATING thousands of girls obtain a vaccine that has no long term history, and that we do not know the side interactions. We should not be making these MANDATORY until we know more about the adverse effects of the immunization.

Bachmann is a successful lawyer and Congressperson. I doubt she wouldn’t know what is the definition of “mental retardation”.I wish the people on this site would stop rushing to knock and criticize good conservative Republicans. No wonder we have trouble voting in good candidates to office.

But, those who didn’t die but had cervical cancer had to have surgery to survive.

What is that number?

How many of these girls and their parents will think they are safe to have sex because they are vaccinated against HPV - and will then go on to get AIDS or other diseases because they believed that sex is of little consequence?

Haven’t we been through this already with the “safe sex” thing that was supposed to prevent STD’s? In reality, demographics that were fed the “safe sex” message ended up getting MORE STD’s because condoms don’t protect against all STD’s, and in fact don’t even give real good protection from HIV.

Whenever the public believes that the government will make sure nothing bad could ever happen to them, it leads to behaviors that cause more problems. In an economic sense that’s what happened with subprime loans. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were there to make sure that nothing bad could ever happen, no matter what risks the market took. The bailout was the government affirming that it is their job to make sure that nothing bad can ever happen to big banks. It’s all geared toward creating a world where the OUTCOMES are always equal regardless of a person’s choices. IOW, it’s to guarantee that nothing we do makes any difference, since we all get the same outcome no matter what we do. That is an impossible scenario and anybody who is led to believe that can ever be reality is treading dangerous waters.

The better option is for people to know they have to take responsibility for their own health. They need to inform themselves of the risks and benefits of a given course of action and live with the knowledge they have.

What's sad is the melodrama.

Genital HPV Infection - Fact Sheet

Most people with HPV do not develop symptoms or health problems from it. In 90% of cases, the body’s immune system clears HPV naturally within two years.

Well, then it's a good thing that the HPV vaccines were "tested for side-effects" during the FDA approval process.

The HPV vaccine is not necessary.

That's a personal opinion. I can't and won't argue with it, FRiend! I somewhat agree with you on that point, too.

Should parents give their children a vaccine to protect them from the effects of cocaine? Would you require your children to be vaccinated against cocaine effects? Why or why not?

You were given the number in Post 56

There's also a LINK in Post 28. Try using it.

Your calculations are based only on the number of deaths from cervical cancer. What you should include in your calculations instead is the number of Americans (women and men) who contract HPV every year. That's the relevant number.

Gardasil prevents 4 types of HPV, which can lead to cervical cancer. HPV can also lead to other types of cancer.

Here are some facts about HPV.

The Mental Retardation comment was a very strong thing to say. If she did know what she was saying, she is a bomb thrower. That is fine if she is going after Obummer. Instead she decided to do it to one of our own. No excuse for it.

I don’t think they were tested enough.

Just for you.

0.00008 of the female population contracts cervical cancer.

Is that the same FDA that rush-approved the “morning after pill” in spite of women dying from it?

The same FDA that refuses to let imminently-dying cancer patients try experimental drug therapies because it might have long-term effects, but rushes through the “morning after pill” and pushes to make it over-the-counter?

And is that the same scientific community whose “peer review” totally overlooked cooked numbers on the global warming issue? And they were able to “overlook” the cooked numbers because they refused to let anybody who was critical of the science publish articles, and refused to fund or promote people who expressed reservations about the science?

See, we are living in dangerous times because the people who REALLY need us to trust them have spat on us for so long and politicized the processes for so long that there is nobody left who is credible. As long as they continue to be “untouchable” and unaccountable they will not automatically have my trust. It’s a serious problem, and as long as they don’t consider credibility a thing worth pursuing, we’re in a downward spiral.

I thought in this country that if someone makes a charge that it was up to them not their target to provide the proof.

So do I. Bachmann made a claim, but as of yet has not shown any proof.

You left out an important caveat.

There is no way to know which people who get HPV will go on to develop cancer or other health problems.
If 6,000,000 people a year contract HPV, approximately 600,000 have immune systems that will not clear HPV naturally.

It’s a little difficult to have a meaningful conversation if we’re each going to be talking about a different thing.

So I guess I’ll just keep dancing...

Cervical cancer isn’t the issue. HPV is the issue. 6,000,000 men and women contract it every year. If we can prevent that, we should. (Not the way Perry attempted to do so though.)
