Well, here are a couple of -- no, make that several -- new wrinkles in the Republican presidential contest in New Hampshire:
With the next televised debate tonight in Florida on Fox News, a new poll of likely New Hampshire Republican voters shows Mitt Romney surging to a commanding 27-point lead over his closest GOP rival, who is not Rick Perry.
The Texas governor, whose mid-August entry saw him rush to the top of numerous national Republican polls, was pushed way down in the new Suffolk University Poll to fourth place deep into the single digits, barely ahead of the not-even-running Sarah Palin.
But here's a surprising, potentially significant development for the New Hampshire contest. Jon Huntsman, who's been swimming around the bottom of the field like a foraging flounder barely registering in most polls, has himself surged.
He's moved all the way up to 10% and third place -- ahead of Perry.
According to the new Suffolk University/7News poll of 400, the field there now stacks up this way:
Romney at 41%, up five points since June; Ron Paul at 14% and Huntsman at 10%, both up six points since June; Perry 8%; Palin 6%; Michele Bachmann 5%; Newt Gingrich at 4%; and Rick Santorum and Buddy Roemer both at 1%.

This poll BS is boring. I want to see some real ACTION. I wish Palin would announce she is running so I can see how scrambled the poll will be once she is in it. Every candidate they are pushing so far are just leaving me with a very Blaaaaah feeling. Where is the excitement? All I see from one day to the next is fizzle. There is no Fire in any of them. I see myself as an Independent with Conservative leanings, give me Fire not smoke.
They want any methodology that makes the Republican liberals look the stongest and the conservatives look the weakest - regardless of who the specific names are. Looks like they got just that.
New England Republicans = RINOS
Prime Example: the Maine RINO sisters.
These things will happen every time you allow too many blue-haired coupon clippers on the state committees ~ they get sent to the RNC to vote, and that's what they vote!
Texas probably has larger counties...but perhaps you are right...if you can drive across the plumpest part of the state in less than two hours; your statehood is revoked. Combine New England into one state known as 'Maine'; give them their two Senators, and let's move forward. (Sadly; they would still have the same number of Congressmen...)
A poll of those likely to vote in the Republican primary and only half of them identified as being Republican and less than half as conservative.
I find it hard worry much about half this group voting in the Republican Primary.
You may be right about his roots. Even if true, not sure what it means. I share roots with a lot of folks I never agree with any more.
All I know is an AFP tea party operative from Wisconsin and I have become friends over the past six months, and he worked closely with Preibus during the very successful tea party elections in that state in 2010. He told me that Preibus is tea party and not establishment. He has zero agenda with me - we were just chatting about our political experiences and so on.
This is not surprising at all for New Hampshire.
It is BS that we allow New Hampshire to be so influential in picking our Candidate. What act of God or anyone else allows these yankee liberals to have first shot at picking a person to lead the Republican party.
A little State who’s only claim to fame is having first Primary. Every state should have their primary the same day./
After that Texicans on FR began "adjusting" the meaning to replace Left Wing.
Time to take back the language. RINO has to do with a Democrat who came over from the Democrat party to run as a Republican. LIBERAL continues to have to do with the way members of Congress or state legislatures vote.
New Hampshire used to be considered rather Conservative leaning.
here we go again
exept this time the democrats may actually vote for these two RINOs instead of the messiah
And perry is not RINO?
Frigging please - his southern accent is a joke and will lose to obama.
He is a less intelligent, less restrained, less likable, more arrogant version of GWB
Not that there's anything wrong with having money ~ "Oh, bless me with millions Lord, bless me" ~ but there's something really wrong with allowing the moneyed class to exercise exclusive control over who becomes RNC Chairman.
Social Conservatives end up feeling excluded with these guys in power, and next thing you know there are no "troops" to carry the Republican campaign into the homes and doorsteps of America.
>>> Up until September 25, 2001 RINO continued to have a strictly political rather than ideological meaning. >>>
You are very close to hitting the nail on the head. The meaning used to be political and not ideological for sure, but I think your definition is just a tiny bit off. From my experiences going back about 19 years and from talking to party operatives with more experience than that, RINO mean Republicans who bashed Republicans as a means of advancing their careers through the fawning media, etc. McCain, Graham, Arnold, etc.
This could include Democrats who crossed over, but was not only that. In fact, what it really meant was Republicans who likely would cross over to Dems when it became expedient: Link Chafee, Jim Jeffords, Arlen specter, etc....classic examples....or like McCain saying he would run as Kerry’s VP in 04 etc.
Now, these folks are also much more likely to be liberal ideologically, but you are right, the original meaning was political and not ideological.
Notice how much weight the media is placing on the New Hampshire primary? They KNOW the GOP victor will be a RINO, and they will use that victory to proclaim that the American people have REJECTED conservatism.
The American people need to reject New Hampshire.
The fact that the LA Times appears to push RINOmney says all that needs to be said.
RINOmney is dim-bulb-crat lite with a twist.
Unlike the dimbulbs, who at least stick to their outdated and unworkable ideas most of the time, RINOmney twists with the wind more than the most lubricated weathervane.
Should we be stupid enough to nominate and elect this loser, we’ll get Obamacare - only watered down and delayed a bit.
D*mmit, we need a conservative with conviction. (Moral convictions, not liberal should be in jail convictions).
RINOmney is not a conservative, and he most certainly does not have any true convictions.
Ding. Ding. Ding. I think this is more meaningful: Gov. Rick Perrys Jobs and Fiscal Conservatism Message Earns 27 New Hampshire Lawmaker Endorsements
Interesting contrast, ain’t it?
Of course he bashed Republicans ~ that's because he really was a GD Democrat!
He was also a fairly mind-numbed, robot-like, knee-jerk Liberal ~ but he'd been a prosecutor I believe, and that'll change a man.
The stories are have already been written; waiting to be uploaded/published the day after the NH Primary...
ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, NY Times, Boston Globe..."Mitt Romney's crushing victory in the New Hampshire primary is the clearest indicator to date that America is rejecting the extremist conservative agenda of the Tea Party..."
Just watch.
Why don't they just reject bad candidates? Apparently you're not from New Hampshire, but you want to pick on everybody in the state, including your fellow conservatives. So what state do you live in?
