Bass Pro Shops have developed a devoted following by packing cavernous stores full of rods and reels, camping and hunting gear, camouflageclothingandanimal trophy-heads.
Behind the scenes, the retailer discriminates in hiring, the government said in a lawsuit filed Wednesday.
Among the allegations: Bass Pro managers repeatedly refused to hire non-white workers as clerks, cashiers or managers, and used discriminatory language to explain their reasoning, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which filed its suit in federal district court in Houston.
For instance, the government alleged a Bass Pro human-resources executive told federal investigators that the assistant ...

The solution to this “problem” is simple and covers nearly any and every contingency:
Hire some outrageously HOT African-American-Asian-Hispanic women to be clerks etc.
The customers will show up in droves.
Communists have been trying to destroy this country for decades...right now; they seem to have the upper hand.
>>> If you really believe in that so-rad idea of hiring who I want, then you shouldnt have a problem with me owning a bass shop, in the deep south, serving those with confederate flags on their trucks, hiring whom I think would be an asset to the business, regardless of his skin colour.
That is, if you really believe that, as opposed to other possibilities, eh?>>>
Don’t know what you think you are reading into my post, but no, I have no problem with the owner of any business hiring whoever he or she thinks he or she should hire. If we allow Hooters to hire only good looking women with nice bodies - and we do - then we should allow any other business to hire for whatever reasons they want to.
Where did you think I was going with this? If a business owner and an employee reach an agreement they both like, then it shouldn’t be the business of the government or of applicants who didn’t get the job to interfere.
It’s called liberty.
I agree, it does stink to high heaven. We do not need the government to tell anybody whom they should hire.
It does nothing more than promote resistence, resentment, and racial discrimination more than that is already in existence.
You’re the one who read into my post, when you got on my case about government involvement interfering with whom a business chooses to hire.
I never said one word about government involvement.
I can see where you thought that I guess - but that was not what I meant.
Humph! The building part is done. East Peoria Bass Pro opens sometime in the next couple of weeks.
But Scheels beat 'em out and opened early in Springfield (IL).
BassPro is a stepping stone to NASCAR and CMTV. Have to water down those cultures with urban influences and get the rednecks to conform to modern thought.
Sounds dubious, but if true, you’re saying that idiotic statement of a an assistant manager should bring the down the hammer of a full-blown EEOC inquisition?
No prob.
Your example, no offense, also used the stereotyped southern confederate who does have an issue with dealing with people other cultures.
When it comes to racism, my honest belief is that people have the right to associate with whom they choose. I think that, eventually qualiications and ability will eventually trump things like a person’s skin, because in something like a competitive sport like bass fishing, if some guy knows his stuff so well that he can help you improve your results, you’re going to give less weight to whom he is and more weight as to what he can do.
I don't believe for a minute that a human resources executive said this to a federal investigator. The key words are “the government alleged”. At this time the ‘government’ is being run by Chicago thugs that aren't above any dirty tactic while looking the American people in the eye and telling blatant lies.
“serving those with confederate flags on their trucks,”
Ohh..the horrible confederate flag. You did exactly what the Government hoped you’d do and equate southern culture with racism.
Who needs proof? Bass Pro Shops now has to battle this in the court of public opinion. Obama shows yet again that he can wield the power of the executive against anyone he pleases to hurt their business. Thus endeth the lesson.
Philosophically I agree with all you said.
Now: To be truthful, I was tweaking you a little bit - not on the government issue, but on the “what I would do if I owned such and such a business” issue.
I’ve owned enough businesses to know that I have no idea what I would do if I owned another business - because until you do, you have no idea what you would do. Being a business owner, perhaps I am overly sensitive to the proclamations made by non business owners on what I should do or what they would do. I’ll admit that.
I also know that technical knowledge and ability is totally irrelevant if a given person will not make your customer base comfortable. Yes, I used a stereotype but that was simply because it was an easy example to make a point.
Blacks work in the Bass pro shops around here in Virginia...sounds like an isolated bigotry case that the higer ups in the chain will need to deal with. Some jerk just cost the company a lot of money!
CMT is already there....owned by CBS. Brad Paisley is a Hussein fan, same with Dolly Parton and Tim McGraw/Faith Hill.
In Jonty’s defense, we were using stereotypes just to make a point - and besides, the government is already trying to do that by going after Bass Pro Shops.
Edmund Wright was the one who said that people, who drive trucks with the Confederate flag on the side, might not choose to deal with somebody who doesn’t fit their culture.
If you really have a problem with this, take it up with him.
