Fallen Savannah police officer Mark Allen MacPhail was murdered while trying to help a beating victim, the first officer to reach his dying comrade recalled.
“Mark was a hero. That’s all there was to it,” said Sgt. David Owens.
Dalton recalled the younger MacPhail knew his father only 58 days, 13 hours and 19 minutes before his slaying.
“Happy birthday, kiddo,” she said.
