I am tending to agree w/ you. I also am wary of how they classify poverty. Yesterday I had early breakfast duty at school and they had an individual packet of frosted flakes, choice of apple or watermelon, cheese toast, and milk for breakfast. This is a K- 2nd grade school & SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many kids threw out all or 1/2 of their food. Same at lunch.
This is taxpayer funded & hungry people DON’T throw away food, they just don’t. The food waste is criminal, I think of the people who would give their left arm for this food. Also we are told over & over to tell our kids to go thru the line & get a tray, even if thy throw it away so that we don’t lose federal funds.
It sickens me.
Or that we need to funnel food thrown away from free lunch programs to the homeless.
Let me tell you a good story.
Just yesterday,my wife volunteered to serve a meal to about 40 persons in Covington Ky on convention.
It was a convention of members of volunteer neighborhood associations from all over the eastern USA.
The venue was the banquet hall in a stunning 19th century Catholic Church.
The City of Covington was only involved so far as to provide the transportation to the various volunteer neighboorhood groups who were feeding and hosting.
The city failed to provide that transportation.
the conventioneers were stuck at their various hotels.
In the various neighboorhoods hundreds of meals were wasted .
The particulr Church that my wife volunteered at serves daily free meals to the homeless, has done that for decades.
However the forty meals prepared for the guests that the city of Covington left at their hotels....
All had to go into the garbage....
because the city health department requires that any food served at the parishes kitchen must “sealed” upon arrival.
That is the way it is.
Totally AFU.
