Tea Party leaders confronted Rick Perry in his own back yard calling on him to use his power as governor to crack down on illegal immigration. JoAnn Fleming, chair of the Tea Party Caucus Advisory Committee of the Texas Legislature said, "The ball is in Gov. Perry's court. He needs to make a decision. He's running out of time." Perry favors giving in-state tuition to certain illegal immigrants which has put him at odds with many Tea Party activists. Ken Emmanuelson, a Dallas Tea Party activist, said Perry should issue an executive order overturning a Texas Department of Public Safety policy that they say has turned Texas into something of a sanctuary state. Tea Party activists are promising to hold Perry's feet to the fire over illegal immigration. Perry has been a vocal foe of a long border wall and said in 2001 he was "intrigued and open" to an amnesty proposal for Mexican workers made by George Bush. Perry's chief opponent, Mitt Romney, vetoed a similar in-state tuition bill when governor of Massachusetts, saying it would provide incentives to illegal immigrants.

There is a high bar to participate in the Tx Dream act.
“You have to have the grades
You have to have gotten them in Tx schools
You have to have been in Tx for at least 3 years
You have to PROVE that you are actively working toward US citizenship.
AND you have to PAY for it.”
AND YOU HAVE TO BE AN “ILLEGAL” ALIEN, LOL!
Reagan was an actual Democrat who backed FDR before he was a Republican.
Reagan turned out to be a great conservative. Perry is a solid conservative. Romney doesn’t have a conservative bone in his body.
If you believe anything Romney says, you must be a RomneyBot.
Excuse me, but that is just about the most illogical thing I have heard.
“Where there is river, then build the fence on the U.S. side with gates in it and border security to man those gates.” The property along the ‘river’ is private property, would you like to have the government come take your property to build a fence?
“Or build the fence everywhere else other than by the river,” Maybe in your backyard?
Perry is not necessarily opposed to a fence, the citizens of Texas are.
Hey, you sound just like a standard Mutt supporter, with that demonstrated level of illogic, you and he deserve each other.
You got that right. Romney has flipped more times on immigration than Cirque du Soleil.
No you don't. All you have to do is sign a statement saying you will apply for legal status at some indefinite time (10 years? 100 years?) in the future.
The article says that Perry wrote a letter in 2001 saying “I am intrigued and open to the Bush administration’s amnesty proposal. Most Texans would agree that it’s better to have legal, taxpaying immigrants from Mexico working in the United States than illegal immigrants living in fear of the law and afraid to access basic services, Perry wrote. If Mexico implements the reforms President [Vicente] Fox wants and develops a stronger middle class, the goal of a more seamless, transparent border could become a reality,” but the link to that alleged letter doesn’t work.
The article says Perry wrote that in a 2001 letter, but the link to that alleged letter does not work.
The article claims that Perry wrote such a letter in 2001, but the link to that alleged letter does not work,
Here is a more recent Perry amnesty quote, from 2011:
Hey, you sound just like a standard Mutt supporter, with that demonstrated level of illogic, you and he deserve each other.
If you love the illegals’ cause so much, why don’t you swim over that river and live in Mexico. It must be as easy to be an illegal in Mexico as it is in Texas. Or is it?
“you must be a RomneyBot.”
You are obviously a myopic Perrybot. If the shoe fits....
Perry is a solid conservative.
P.S., and Perry is such a solid conservative that he wants open borders and instituted in-state tuition for ILLEGAL aliens. Great conservative there.
“Perry is not necessarily opposed to a fence, the citizens of Texas are.”
Perry has said he is opposed to a fence, and you better be speaking only for yourself and not all Texans about not wanting a fence. What a crock.
What does he mean by "basic services"? Anyone know?
To me it sounds like a variation on the Dem/RINO “Out of the shadows” amnesty mantra.
Perry likes to rationalized his flouting immigration laws with the “states rights” angle.
But there are illegal aliens raping, murdering and stealing all across America that invaded this country THROUGH TEXAS!!!
thanks to Perry’s promises of state goodies.
States Rights my butt,Perry has made Texas a national security risk with his illegal alien enabling.
THAT FACT will come up in the next debate.
“Resolve Gov Perry, what about America’s Rights?”
From what I’ve been reading, there were only FOUR votes in the TX legislature opposed to granting illegals the right to pay in-state tuition, IF they had attended TX public schools at least three years and graduated from high school. Federal laws require that the states must enroll all minors in schools through HS; legal or illegal.
Perry tried to get legislation passed in the recent session to outlaw sanctuary cities in Texas, but that was voted down.
Perry does not favor any amnesty for the illegal aliens that would give them citizenship in the US. He HAS supported a program like the former Bracero program that would allow illegals to temporarily enter the state to work seasonal crops, and the program requires returning to their own countries when the work season is completed.
Granting the right to PAY in-state tuition to illegals does NOT give them any preference over citizen students. Entrance requirements apply equally.
[Illegal immigration is Perrys Achilles heal.]
Right............It sure kept Reagan out of office.
HUSH!
These people want you to believe Perry gave them all free College at the cost of the taxpayers. At least they will lie about it to that effect.
I will type slowly because I know you don’t read very fast...and there, your lips are moving....
You are rather dishonest in your portray of Perry, his beliefs and his actions.
You hate him and that is ok. You hate him based on your own charges that you create against him regardless of what other factors may be involved.
It is your freedom to do so.
But when you want to present only one very biased and/or exaggerated view point, refuse to look at others, and then shout down or mock anyone that doesn’t fully agree with you, then don’t be surprised when someone suggests a dry diaper for you and a regular bed time.
And hugs. Do you need a hug? No, I don’t hate you, I just think you need some hugs.
