The New Most Dangerous Cities In America (Drum Roll... Here are your top 25)

For the fifth year in a row, crime is down in the United States, according to the FBI. The 2010 final statistics released today show a 6.0% drop in violent crimes from last year's report -- better than the 5.5% announced in the preliminary findings in May.

Violent crime is down 13.2% from 2006 and 13.4% from 2001.

But parts of the country are getting worse.

Flint, Michigan -- the most violent city in America -- saw a 10% increase in violent crime over last year, with 2,208 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Rust Belt neighbor Detroit was only slightly safer.

The cities on this list are ranked by violent crimes, including murder, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault, per 100,000 people.

Yes. Private security, homes and businesses. It’s everywhere now.

Flint and Detroit do have about 60 miles of separation. They aren't exactly neighbors. I haven't been to Flint in awhile, but it's north end is one of the roughest looking areas I've ever seen. Pierson Rd.

Lansing's on the list? It has some rough parts, but isn't that bad outside of its Southwest end and around Baker St. Saginaw, Inkster, Ypsilanti, and Pontiac are not on the list and are in much worse shape than Lansing.

Jackson didn’t seem that bad outside of one area by Francis St. A little run down, but nothing that would faze me. That’s by Michigan city standards, though. Not all that high.

I keep telling the people in charge in Boise to put in more outside lighting because it’s dark and scary on the University campus and downtown at night, but they keep saying “We’re trying to conserve power and limit light pollution”.

Then they have another mugging or murder on the Green Belt.

All those cities I mentioned were their state’s respective legislatures meet, hence why I said they were dangerous. But thanks for the info on Boise.
