Mitt Romney: A Liberal's Liberal Republican

The most prominent candidate for the GOP nomination is former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. ...the darling of the GOP establishment. George Will lists him as one of the few serious presidential candidates.

But should Romney be the GOP's presidential nominee? The answer is "absolutely not."

Although there is no "perfect conservative," and although conservatives have serious issues with every candidate running, Mitt Romney is nothing more than a strident liberal masquerading as a moderate. As Selwyn Duke rightly wrote in 2007, Romney is the Barack Obama of the GOP. Every Republican has made his share of mistakes, but Romney is a committed liberal on the whole spectrum of issues.

Conservatives know that Romney was pro-abortion for a long time before he first ran for the presidency in 2007, at which time he "changed his position" because he was now asking for the votes of conservatives. Romney has also supported "gay rights," and as Massachusetts governor, he implemented same-sex marriage by executive fiat.

In 2004, the MA Supreme Court ruled that the state's marriage law was unconstitutional -- but the Court did not rule, contrary to what is claimed, that gay marriage must be legalized and that the state constitution contains a "right" to marry. Yet, as soon as the ruling was issued, Romney commanded state agencies, by executive order, to start issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples.

Romney is stridently liberal on fiscal and economic issues. He did not initially support the Bush tax cuts; he has long opposed (and continues to oppose) the flat tax, calling it "a tax cut for fat cats"; he used fee hikes and "loophole-closing measures" to balance the Massachusetts state budget;

Mitt believes that anthropogenic global warming is real and that humanity must act urgently to stop it.

This guy is a freaking liberal, that makes even John Mclame look conservative by comparison. For some unknown reason Romney has gotten a free ride so far during the debates. But it is way past time that we start hammering this dude into the ground, on his record.

They did what they could to mitigate Perry’s entrance spike and give Romney a fighting chance. Now the gloves are off. It’s time to get real. At least I hope Perry takes off the gloves.

Mitt Romney has been doing nothing but running for president for more than 5 years. FIVE YEARS! And the guy still is getting his ass kicked by Perry after Perry has been running for a month or so. Mitt is a liberal. He shouldn’t be our nominee, and the MSM shouldn’t force him on us the way they forced Captain Queeg on us in 2008. Rick Perry is the guy who can send Obama back to Kenya.

I have said this before and will say it again. Any Republican that wins the Governorship in the state of Massachusetts cannot be a conservative or even a moderate.

Any conservative is better than a progressive. The cook at the local McDonalds who has been a conservative sense he grew up under Reagan would make a better president than a progressive Republican with Ivy League credentials, rich family, political experience, government experience, all the right connections and an inside knowledge of who to work the corruption. The only good thing about Romney is that he will make a better president than Obama, but he may not be better for the Republican Party in the long run.

Romney, along with a few others, both on and off the campaign trail, are beginning to garner far more yawns than support. No one is listening to Obama either. It may be over earlier than some expected, if the current wave of mounting enthusiasm for Rick Perry is any indicator. Just hope there will be no third-party runner, who would be willing to blow it all up to just to make some dang highly polished point, or another.

He is straight out of Massachusetts: That IS John Kerry and Ted Kennedy’s record. That’s what they stood for and lobbied for their entire careers.

I would bet that in the privacy of the voting booth that Romney pulled the lever for both Gore and Kerry.
