I would rather have one of my children die than to have them in the living death of severe brain damage my nephew has been in for the past 25 years. He functions at the level of a three year old, because of a DPT shot. He can’t speak. His entire life was wiped out in a moment. After my son also had a severe reaction, I’m not taking any more chances.

It’s easy for high and mighty people to make decrees when it’s never happened to them.

I am so sorry about your family member...Severe reactions are possible with any vaccine or medication..I took care of a little boy while in nursing school that lived in a nursing home because of a nasty reaction to a vaccination..He was in a coma. He would always be in the coma as it had effected his brain....these are the sad cases, My kids had reactions, but not serious one's. As you say, some reactions are worse than death.

We today don't see the large scale problems that certain diseases cause, that today mean just a 10 day penicillin routine...My daughter got scarlet fever that send me into great worry, but the doctor said don't worry, the penicillin will take care of it....in my day it was a possible death sentence....

I have spoken up on several Gardisil threads because of the side effects of any medication, and sexually transmitted disease don't effect the other 12 year old sitting next to a possible disease based on the action of another years down the road...many disagree with me, but a noncommunicable problem, to me is no reason to vaccinate a child....

Again, I am sad that your family member was one that got the severe reaction. Heart breaking to the parent that says to themselves...."what if I hadn't done that" :O(
