WASHINGTON -- Solyndra officials were intensely pressuring Bush administration officials in early January 2009 to approve a government loan for the solar company before the Obama administration took power, according to new emails obtained by Fox News on Friday.
On Jan. 12, 2009, Solyndra CEO Chris Gronet sent an Energy Department official an email marked "urgent" expressing outrage that Bush officials had decided a few days earlier that while the loan application had "merit" it needed further study before officials could move forward with a taxpayer-financed loan.
"I was appalled to learn on Friday that our application is being delayed yet again," Gronet wrote to Energy official Steve Isakowitz, writing there had been "countless communications" back and forth suggesting the application would be reviewed Jan. 15.

The results of the Congressional probe shared Tuesday with ABC News show that less than two weeks before President Bush left office, on January 9, 2009, the Energy Department's credit committee made a unanimous decision not to offer a loan commitment to Solyndra. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/emails-obama-white-house-monitored-huge-loan-connected/story?id=14508865

They were desperate for Bush to approve it so Obama wouldn’t get the blame when it blew up later. The deal was done, but Bush wasn’t playing.

This whole shoddy solar episode is growing the legs of a sprinter and is too transparent for the MSM to be able to excuse it or explain it away.

Reminds me of Bernie Madoff shaking down his “friend and mentor” Carl Shapiro for a $250M loan, made in the first week of December, 2008. The telephone traffic on the day of the wire transfer was Bernie with ants in his pants “did you make the deposit yet? where is the deposit?” - the anxiety was so palpable it would have made the average person wonder if it was a good idea to give so much money to someone who was in such a state.
On the issue of subsidizing applied technology - there is a case to be made for selective and very careful government subsidization of certain promising technologies. But this isn’t one of them.
At the same time you might be able to make the case that government should be subsidizing (and thus accelerating) the shift from postal mail to electronic mail, because it is a net savings, and because it presumably has environmental benefits. But with the postal unions behind Obama, you’ll never hear that one queued up.
Barack’s tit is really in the wringer this time.

If you need government loans to get your startup off the ground, it's because your business model is garbage and private venture capital sources won't touch you with a ten foot pole. So of course our government with it's brilliant economic knowledge will add to it's debt funding these BS "green technology" failures.

Venture capitalism is for the good business models; venture socialism is for all the rest.

That’s what I’ve been thinking. “The Midas Touch” turned everything to gold. What turns everything to crap should be coined “The Obama Touch” from now on.

This is just too good! Their belief in their own “enlightenment” and the “ignorance” of the prior administration set them up to get played.
