Did you get misled by the entire statements that it was not a baby and it was your choice? I think the entire “get it, get it” chant can disorient us weak sinners.
baby-killing should only be “allowed” in the event that it could harm the mother. This would be I’m guessing only 0.5% of the cases.
I got pregnant when I was 19. The father’s father oh-so-kindly arranged for an abortion. I refused to do it. The father ran off. Thank God, after their initial horrified shock, my parents stood by me, arranged for me to talk to lawyers and doctors about all my options other than abortion. (My parents never once mentioned the word.) My doctor found some good Christian doctors and lawyers who couldn’t have children and would love to adopt my baby. After much investigation, discussion and prayer, I kept my baby girl.
It wasn’t easy, but I went back to college, got my degree, married a man who adopted her, and had two more children. Although it was VERY hard to be an unwed mother in a small, conservative town in the 60s, I have never regretted my decision. I could not live with myself if I had murdered my own child! PS: My daughter is an astonishingly wonderful, intelligent, compassionate woman who has contributed much to the world and to our family!
