Even if we did need new bridges, the environmentalists would never allow them to be built.

It will take 6 years for the environmental impact reports to be prepared. Then Snail Darter Two or other "endangered species" will be discovered using all 153 bridges as habitat.

What's happened to our country?

Kind of. They watermelon’s will wait until construction is “underway” (read the bridge is in an un-usable state), then they will launch the lawsuits. Old bridge gone, no new bridge to replace it. The American citizen screwed again!

“the environmentalists would never allow them to be built.”

That is true...the Bonner bridge over Oregon Inlet, outer banks, NC is dangerously close to falling down. The Southern Environmental law Center (SELC) filed suit on 2JUL11 to stop construction of a new bridge.

When people die because of SELC actions, will they be charged with manslaughter?

Send an email, get back 10 pounds of taxpayer-funded Environmental Impact Statement, with insight such as “Construction of this bridge may disturb vegetation.”
