Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann's story about a woman who claimed that her daughter suffered "mental retardation" after receiving a vaccine against HPV could fetch the woman's family thousands of dollars. But the family can only collect if Bachmann or the unnamed woman can prove the story is true.
Two bioethics professors have offered to pay more than $10,000 for medical records that prove the anecdote Bachmann told after Monday night's Republican presidential debate is true, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports:
Steven Miles, a U of M bioethics professor, said that he'll give $1,000 if the medical records of the woman from Bachmann's story are released and can be viewed by a medical professional.
His offer was upped by his former boss from the University of Minnesota, Art Caplan, who is now director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. Caplan said he would match Miles' challenge and offered $10,000 for proof of the HPV vaccine victim.
"'These types of messages in this climate have the capacity to do enormous public health harm,'" Miles said of why he made the offer. 'The woman, assuming she exists, put this claim into the public domain and it's an extremely serious claim and it deserves to be analyzed.'"
Bachmann told the story after she criticized opponent Texas Gov. Rick Perry for using an executive order in 2007 to mandate that all girls entering the sixth grade receive a vaccination against the Human papillomavirus, a sexually transmitted disease that can cause cervical cancer.

It seems that it’s becoming pretty clear at FR that there is something seriously wrong with attitudes towards women politicians. Since I am often on Bachmann and Palin threads, perhaps I get hit with it more than you. But it’s pretty obvious that you, too, are seeing it.
I recommend an article in today’s New York Post which details the suppression of liberal women candidates in the Brooklyn/Queens election that trounced the awful bewigged male candidate, Weprin.
The article goes on to site numerous studies that show women who are included in the political process often bring common sense and probity to the table. They are far more trusted in sexual matters once they achieve power.
The New York Post is hardly a left wing rag. It was a very eye-opening article.
RE: Seriously, though, there were a slew of youtube videos about young women who were pefectly normal pre-gardasil, and then had major health failures afterwards. Can someone check the validity of those? Are they still there?

Here are some Youtube videos regarding the damage done by Gardasil ( I don’t know if all these are true, just posting for reference. Check the truth out for yourself ):

I have to wonder how much the left is actually making an issue of this in comparison to her detractors on the right. ???!
She didn’t pull the gender card. Many men at FR did. They have been smearing and denigrating female candidates all over this site. Wake up.
“I did not know this crap existed with Pubbies”
Nor did I, but not for the reasons you’re thinking.
Your sort of mindless gender card crap would be more at home at the DU or on the View. I think MB screwed up but it has absolutely nothing to do with her gender it’s her indefensible comments.
I’m a Palin supporter, so as far as not voting for a women in my case, it’s ridiculous. And if Michelle Bachmann wins the Republican nomination, I’ll vote for her without hesitation.
I’ll say it again, the gender card is every bit as despicable and cowardly as playing the race card.
Support your candidate with facts and intellect, that is what garners respect.
“She didnt pull the gender card. Many men at FR did.”
2 examples on this thread please.
But he cannot be bought for $5,000. Remember that. It would take much, much more.
Yes, she did. I had heard that she had a history of making gaffes. Well, they're not gaffes, they're just dumb stuff she says. She's almost a Republican Biden.
Read it yourself. It’s not that long a thread. But if you can’t see it, then maybe you just don’t want to see it.
Are you offering up yourself?
Step on up to the plate, lady.
Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think this will be much of a factor in her success or failure. If it is that says to me that if it isn't this it will be something, anything, else.
My main motive in posting was to make fun of liberal professors who make asinine challenges that reveal their complete lack of respect or understanding of science, one or the other. Or both. They aren't teachers of anything in the classical sense they are apparatchiks.
“Read it yourself....”
I did, and it doesn’t exist.
One would have to be blind not to.
Interesting fact that foreign conservative female politicans (Lady Thatcher for instance) are always fêted at FR. But then they will never run in a US election.
Similarly, the vitriol spewed at Lady Thatcher then (and now) in Britain far surpasses anything any other PM has had to endure.
But still history has given rise to many successful female politicians and rulers who despite having "the body but of a weak and feeble woman"; have had the "heart and stomach of a king". Woe to the men who despise such women.
“apparatchiks”; You’re trying to put me in more hot water on this thread aren’t you.
Just kidding, I know what it means.
You’re not one of those professors now are you?!? lol
But they are NOT good, mature and full of wisdom Conservatives! I’d hate to live in this world after those of us 80 and over are gone to our reward.
Having not read the entire thread yet, I would point you to post 50 as an example.
You’re kidding right?
Who can forget the greatest ruler of them all? Good Queen Bess. I am also a huge fan of the second Elizabeth. Although, like many great women, she raised a milksop for a son.
The vitriol leveled at Margaret Thatcher in her day was unbelievable. Always, always going after her appearance and emotions. But, of course, we all love her until she decides to run for office in the USA, lol.
I always think of Shaw’s play, St. Joan. She comes back from the dead at the end of the play when she is being lionized by her survivors (it’s a dream sequence). Good old Charlie V being her number one fan. She offers to come back to life and take up the fight yet again. With a great deal of hysteria, her supporters take to their heels leaving her alone once again.
