The poll, conducted by Insider Advantage for the Florida Times-Union, shows Perry leading the field with 29 percent support. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney comes in second with 20 percent support. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is a distant third with 9 percent. Minnesota Rep. Perry continues to lead, despite off-topic attacks at debate.

Bachmann’s done. I hope she gets the memo soon.

Newt has moved to third overall and leads among the 2nd tier candidates. He is impressive in the debates and I can see why he has gained some support. However his sucking up to the global warming crowd and other issues is what does him in. But if it came down to it he would be light years ahead of Obama.

Who would Bachmann’s support go to?

In the short term? No idea. Some to Perry. Some to Cain. In the long run? Hopefully to the nominee. I'll vote for whoever wins the nomination. But it won't be Bachmann, Cain, Santorum, Paul, Newt, or Huntsman.
In other words, it'll be Perry or Romney. I don't like either one of them, but then, the whole field stinks. I'll vote for the winner, though.

I agree re: Bachmann, though a VP slot may be a possibility. But POTUS?.. not gonna happen.
As for Paul, I`m pleased to see him gravitate back to his normal level of support. The flirtation with the nutcase seems to have run its course.
In addition to Bachmann and Paul, it`s time for Santorum, Huntsman, McCotter and Johnson call it a day. Keep Newt around a while longer to force the others to keep their debating skills sharp. And forget Palin.. she waited too long to jump into the fray.

One more.. Herman Cain..another VP possibility, but support is too thin for POTUS.

Has McCotter ever really been in the race? I think he just announced for president so he could write off a family picnic as a campaign event.

Newt moving ahead of Bachman to third here and PPP. He will pass Romney soon. He is the best qualified to be President and it’s obvious.

He’s a great speaker. I just don’t trust his judgement.
But he is redeeming himself a little for his missteps on policy the last few years. I do think Perry should take note and notice how his polling is doing better by just focusing on Obama. Newt does have the luxury of not being attacked by all sides though.

Newt will make an excellent secretary of state in Perry’s administration.
