A University of Minnesota bioethicist is offering $1,000 for medical proof that a womans daughter suffered mental retardation from the vaccine for human papillomavirus virus, a story that was told by Rep. Michele Bachmann after Mondays debate.
Bachmann has come under fire from the medical community for suggesting the vaccination for the HPV virus, a sexually transmitted disease that can cause cervical cancer, is linked to mental illness.
Steven Miles, a U of M bioethics professor, said that hell give $1,000 if the medical records of the woman from Bachmanns story are released and can be viewed by a medical professional.
His offer was upped by his former boss from the University of Minnesota, Art Caplan, who is now director of the University of Pennsylvania Center for Bioethics. Caplan said he would match Miles' challenge and offered $10,000 for proof of the HPV vaccine victim.

“Nobody was FORCED to take Gardasil”
yer point is?
Yeah, it’s not smart for lay people to make dogmatic pronouncements about health policy initiatives. Often, when you read up on the epidemiology and prevalence of certain diseases, you see why the health recommendations may make sense after all. Not saying I agree with the Perry Gardasil deal, but actual serious adverse reactions are probably exceedingly rare.
Yes, but she screwed herself by doubling down on Perry saying that An executive does not get a mulligan.
The people that I know that get the “FLU” every year, get a “FLU” shot every year. I’ve never had a flu shot.
And I’ve never had a seasonal flu.
The best thing she can do now is actually drop out as quickly as possible.
My point is all this hand wringing over gardisil is pointless.
Nobody was forced to take the vaccine.
Bachmann was never a viable candidate.
Well if the person who told Bachmann that story is real, there shouldn’t be any problem in finding and interviewing her. After all, according to Bachmann the woman approached her after the debate and told her about the damage the vaccine had caused her daughter. So the woman was evidently ready and willing to tell her story.
She is a one trick pony.....zerocare is her mantra.
All I know is her performance on the Gardasil issue made me question her handling the nuclear football.
From what I saw, Bachmann was positioning herself as a VP pick, and she was betting heavily on Mittens.
She really did lose a lot of points with me based on that performance.
Right, you are...
I’ve always said that I could make a fortune with simple common sense advising pol’s on what they should and should not say...
This and now Palin and Glenn Rice. What are these women thinking. Its a mans world and with women like this in the fray, they just set back the advances of women 100 years.
Yeah, well, I’ll give $1,000 to see Obama’s transcripts.
It’s Elvis’ birthday all over again
It would be pointless, true if what you said was the point.
The point was, Perry took money from the company that manufactured and sold it, hello.
How unethical for a presumed “Ethicist”.
Obviously, University of Minnesota needs to lose its
license for trying to BROADCAST personal medical records
for a Professor’s personal vendetta.
I think she was working for him and a VP slot at the debate.
Picking on Bachmann for exposing Perry’s disgusting use of an executive order and his disgraceful pandering to illegals keeps the heat off Perry.
He is the default faux conservative.
The Tea Party will have to keep an eye on this sucker.
Yes, I know he apologized, but the whole thing has a smell to it. Character counts.
