You are correct. The quotes indicate that while I do not consider them to be the mainstream of our society, they are a 'mainstream' within the sub-set of mentally unbalanced persons commonly known as 'democrats' (which word which should probably also be contained within quotation marks whenever it is used to refer to those people).

I’ve run into a couple of types there, the elected “Blue Dogs”...who talk “normal person” out of one side of their mouth, and then go into session and vote communist.

Then there are the RAT voters, conservatives who are either real stubborn and delusionally married to their brand label...or too stupid to realize they are sending communists to represent them.

Maybe that’s the same thing.
