Assuming that this one-night stand story is true, let's for the sake of argument apply this to Rick Perry and let's suppose that in his younger Air Force days, he picked up a good-looking woman in a bar and slept with her for a night. We'd be saying "Good for Rick!" After all, most young men have done something like this and more than once at that. It's called "sowing your oats." And in order to do that, you must have a willing partner.

That Sarah Palin (Heath at the time) might have "hooked up" with a guy or two to sow her wild oats doesn't concern me one bit. Not that I accept this story as true but if Palin comes out and admits it, I'm not going to think anything less of her. How many people born after say 1950 remained a virgin until marriage? I would put that percentage in single digits.

The drug thing would concern me a bit more if that turned out to be true but so long as it is in the distant past, we can treat it as a youthful indiscretion and leave it at that. After all, our current president admits to using cocaine in his youth and we are pretty sure that Bill Clinton used cocaine on a regular basis as an adult - maybe even during his presidency.

So is this all they've got?

Actually a lot of this seems somewhat plausible to me. Wallflower types don’t accomplish a lot of what Palin has accomplished in her career. A large portion of 18 to 24 year olds do a lot of things that later don’t seem like such a smart idea. You can either downplay them or sensationalize them like this author has done. The reality lies somewhere in the middle.

I guess I have three takeaways from this.

A) Should conservatives eat their own based on things like this? The left doesn’t do anything with their own, but love getting conservatives to take down each other with anything that looks like a scandal.

B) People shouldn’t hero worship their politicians as to their personal life whether it is Palin, Obama, Rick Perry or any of them. You’re bound to be letdown.

C) For better or worse, Palin is always going to have these type of PR flare ups, whether true or false. The media has decided to do this to her and not to Barry. Fair or not, conservatives have to figure out whether they want to have Sarah be their standard bearer knowing she’ll always have this hurdle to overcome. I think her ideas are the best of all the candidates for President but she may not be the best messenger for them for a variety of reasons.

I am one , born in 1952 . My wife is the only women I’ve gone “ all the way “ with , and I’m proud to admit it .
