Correct, which is many of them all over the country varying by degree. When Perry espouses Christian values, one must ask if his support for Texas' variant of the Dream Act represents those values. Yet the implementation of said act requires exactly the taking of private property by force for support of an illegal act, regardless of the motive or however virtuous the use of those funds might be.
It's very easy to blather about how much one loves the Lord, is saved, whatever, but a political leader soliciting support MUST explain how said "Christian values" translate into policy or else one must consider such statements to be transparent demagoguery of the worst kind.
Perry knows people will interpret what his statements mean subjectively. So unless he clarifies how those values translate into policy, the entire pronouncement is rendered an act of dishonest manipulation.
So I wouldn’t blame the church any more than any other group.
Church organizations are responsible for the theology of their divinity schools, many of which are far to the left of the membership. This is a process which began with the Sabbatean contributions to the organization and construction of yeshivot for reform Judaism and has been extended into Christianity the same way and by the same European banking families (there is an excellent history on this pattern written by an Orthodox rabbi by the name of Marvin Antelman). The resulting drift to the left of a good many religious institutions into everything from Marxism, to gay marriage, and to excusing ephebophilia has thus been no accident. PCUSA has been a prime example.
The problem with the liberal “church” is that they disregard Scripture wherever it doesn’t fit into their narrative.
That's "the problem" that originates with replacement theology in the first place, which includes a whole bunch of denominations, including those who claim to be conservative. I don't like in-state tuition and have fought it in Calif. because it is a give away with no hope or requirement they'll ever add to the state economy.
For Texas, let's look at the background: Giant state, large illegal population. Border control and immigration policy is the domain of the federal gov't. which it has failed to do. SCOTUS has ruled states cannot deny welfare or education to illegals and their children. What do you do?
You've already had to educate them, K-12, under court edict and now they're adults that you have no legal authority to remove and they have no authorization to work.
Do you put them on welfare, as required by the courts, or make a deal saying if you've been a resident, graduated our high schools and are trying to get legalized, so you can work instead of continue sucking the system dry, we'll treat you like other state residents? The Texas legislature and Perry decided to make that deal while Perry has persistently needled the feds for abdicating their duty.
It's a terrible spot the feds have put the states in. It's unconscionable, even treasonous; a no win situation. With decades of failure and foolish court decisions, the feds have put the gun to the heads of taxpayers and the states in which they live.
At the federal level, for years part of Perry's proposed "fix" is pretty much that of Palin: mass registration, temporary need-based work visas and no citizenship give aways, not even for 'dream' students.
Sadly, the issue has been demonized and polarized into irrationality, becoming a third-rail. It's going to remain unsolved by lilly-livered feds in congress until it metastasizes. I hope I never see that day.
