New Hampshire State Representative Steven Smith Endorses Herman Cain
We Are Politics ^ | 9/14/11 | Bill Knowles

Maybe Mitt Romney doesn't have New Hampshire as wrapped up as some people are predicting....In today's Concord Monitor, Republican State Representative Steven Smith of Charlestown, NH has endorsed Herman Cain with this editorial:

"Presidential candidate Herman Cain is uniquely qualified to approach the federal government as the morass that it is and work diligently on fixing it.

Cain has experience taking over a large, troubled, complex mess and turning it into a successful enterprise, where the business owners and the employees all benefit. Cain understands government policy from a real-world perspective. In 1994, he challenged President Clinton with hard facts regarding his health-care initiative. Clinton was unable to respond. Cain did this in a respectful, polite fashion, without making it political or personal.

It is important to have a leader who can shine a light on the simple truth, and keep issues away from the sink hole of sound bite and talking point wars. It is possible to be tenacious, and challenge people, without fighting.

Cain has proposed specific, common-sense solutions for the challenges our country faces today.

In the last debate, I thought it was telling when Cain jumped in on a question and asked, "Do you want more rhetoric, or do you want solutions?" He then went on to provide some. Despite the fact that it wasn't his turn, everyone listened. At that moment I saw our next president.

If you believe that we should not elect another politician as president, and if you also believe that the time has come to put a dedicated problem-solver in the Oval Office, then I see only one choice for the Republican nomination. Join me in supporting Herman Cain. We deserve solutions, not more rhetoric."

Outstanding! Cain would be fantastic as the nominee. I ONLY accept Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or Palin as our nominee. They are the most conservative and at least one of them should be our nominee.

I like Herman Cain and would be tickled if he was in the second spot behind Rick Perry. For that matter, I would be even happier if he was the front runner.

But lets not overestimate this thing.

There are 400 or so state Representatives in New Hampshire. It is a part-time job with a token salary. If you have enough time, money and patience, anyone can move there, pick the right constituency and eventually get elected as a State Representative. It is a high turnover job in a tiny state. That's not a bad thing, it just means that your 3000 or so constituents may have entirely different ideas but elect you anyway because you are a good neighbor or have a nice personality.

Or actually be one of the few people who even wants the job and can afford to take time off work to do it.

“I ONLY accept Cain, Bachmann, Santorum or Palin as our nominee.”

Shhh...you’re supposed to say that you don’t care how liberal the RINO nominee may be, as long as obama is defeated then everything will be a-okay.

You’ll upset the GOP upperclassmen and the talking heads who carry their water.

I am sick and disgusted with professional politicians. Herman Cain is my first choice then Gov. Palin. Gov. Palin has shown that she will take on the big guys of any party and win.

The rest of them are just lite dems anyway.

So, let me get this straight. Cain did very well in the last debate, he won the Luntz focus group the week before, he is 2nd in Gallup behind Perry and now he gets this endorsement from NH and you poo-poo it? I think the Cain Train is picking up steam...and I for one, am on board!

I'm not poo-poohing Herman Cain, just putting this endorsement from an obscure legislator in New Hampshire in the proper focus.

Herman isn't going to get any traction beacuse of what this guy thinks or what you or I think. He will get attention when and if he breaks out of the single digit range in the polls for more than a couple of weeks.

Shortly before the All-Star break, the Pittsburgh Pirates were in first place briefly. I wish they still were. But if wishes were fishes, we'd all have a fry.

I hope you're right but color me skeptical. I saw what happened when moderate squishes (and Democrats) swarmed the Republican primary process in 2008 and gave us McCain with the two RINO midgets (Mutt & Hick) as 1st and 2nd runner-ups. And they had a hotly contested primary of their own at that time.

I'm committed to supporting the most viable conservative alternative in the race when Pennsylvania's turn comes to vote in May of next year. Last month that would have been Michele Bachmann. This month maybe it is Herman Cain. It would be nice if there is something left to decide by the time our turn rolls around.

Some candidates have surges, Herman Cain has been steadily growing (and not falling off) since February. His biggest hurdle, of course, is the mainstream media ignoring him.

I have met very few people who took the time to really research him, get an idea of his character, see his work background, look at his plans indepth, and get over the fact that he is not a politician (old habits die hard). The catch is getting people to take that first step.

Too many say he can’t do it. But he IS doing it, they just don’t know.

I was going to say, there are approximately 32,000 state reps in NH, so this guy pretty much represents people he sees while walking his dog. : )

Not to say that I don’t like Herman Cain, or that I wouldn’t be touting the endorsement if I were him, but you’re correct to place the endorsement in perspective.
