Me too. I am also very suspicious of the lack of privacy these online social structures like facebook, and also (I’m guessing, twitter,) do NOT provide!
However, I would also be in the market for know at least a little how they work.
Twitter is like a large party. You “follow” people to hear their musings, and you can reply to them etc
That former should read, “I would also be in the market for KNOWING at least a little how they work.”
(Sorry, only on 1st cup of coffee...)
It’s like a news feed...you’re limited to 80 characters to spout whatever nonsense you’d like to. You can include links...some people use the # before a phrase to create a hashtag that others can use and respond too. Like the hastag #Obamasucks would create a group of tweets about Obama...sucking.
I like to follow sports writers to keep up with breaking news
You follow people, they follow you and you usually drown in inane and boring status updates within an hour.
It’s another tool, like FB, for people to fool themselves that they are more important than they are. (Yeah, I have to check twitter for one of my jobs several times a day and the resentment shows I guess.)
You want to get set up on it, Freepmail me.
Think of Twitter as sort of a head line generator of what you are doing during the day. You can kind of broadcast something like. Just watched the Debate what did you think of mansons performance? Then those that follow you can respond to your tweets, and start a thread.
I’m not really sure, and will follow this thread because I’m curious, too.
I think the messages posted to Twitter are called “tweets”.
twitter is a website. Think of each user as having one free republic thread that is viewable by all but only they can post in their thread. Each person can reference another’s thread but only post in their’s. Also posts have to be less than 140 characters.
OHHHHHH!!!! Sort of like Freerepublic.com???? :-D
Obama has an “Attack” reporting twitter feed:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2778184/posts
Basically, you create an account at Twitter and, once you’re a member, you can send messages, of 140 characters or less, called Tweets.
Those who have chosen to follow your Tweets will receive a message every time you post.
It can be a time saver, if you need to get a tweet out to several people at once, as opposed to sending out individual text messages, but it is a waste of time overall, imo.
Bottom line: You can follow the Drudge Report without the ads.
I follow Iowahawk, Connie Hair, Michelle Malkin and Drudge. The lastest:

It’s another internet-digital ‘pet rock’ that will be supplanted by another fad technology in seven months.
It means only Twit’s use and rely on it.
Without the long rants though. :D
You also follow people instead of topics generally.
I got into Twitter when the Republicans in the House was refusing to leave and Pelosi turned off the lights. The Twitter feed was great.
Now since I have an account, I can read. I follow Breitbart and some congresspeople.
Oh and Pottermore.
You’ve got to Login first....
That clarifies it some for me. THanks!
