Iran Test-Fires Super-Heavy Smart Bombs in Air Drills
TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian Army's Air Force successfully test-fired its Qassed smart bombs during the air drills underway in Northwestern Iran.
Air Force Lieutenant Commander Brigadier General Hossein Chitforoush, who is the spokesman of the 'Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III' air drills, said that an Iranian F-4 bomber fired Qassed super-heavy, smart bombs at a target on the second day of the third phase of the air drills, adding that the bomb successfully hit the target.
The 2000-pound smart bombs are able to fly a 40km distance and hit the target without pilot's control.
The bombs, equipped with a smart guiding system, are produced by few countries due to the advanced technical know-how required for its production and Iran is the last in a chain of countries which have succeeded in developing the technology.
Chitforoush also stated that Mig-29 fighter jets of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) have successfully test-fired air-to-ground missiles during the drills.
He added that Air Force has also successfully tested the Iranian made Saeqeh fighter jets with live munitions during the exercises.
The 10-day air drills, codenamed "Fadaeeyan-e Harim-e Vellayat III", started in Northwestern Iran last week.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) on Tuesday started the main phase of its four-staged air drills with testing live munitions and missiles.
An array of fighter jets, fighter bombers, cargo and transportation planes, including F-4, F-5, Sukhoi SU-24 fighter-bombers, Mig-29 and the logistic C-130 planes, and the home-made Saeqeh fighter jets have carried out missions in the drills.
LOL. They had to number the strakes so as not to get confused.
I wonder what the CPE is?
And can you imagine flying those old left over American airframes. Yikers. Hope the ejection seats have a recent PM.
