Byron York telegraphs the lines of attack Michele Bachmann is planning on using at tomorrow night's Florida debate to chip away at the support Rick Perry has taken from her:
"Bernie Madoff deals with Ponzi schemes, not the grandparents of America," says a Bachmann adviser. "Clearly she feels differently about the value of Social Security than Gov. Perry does. She believes Social Security needs to be saved, that it's an important safety net for Americans who have paid into it all their lives."
York goes on the say Bachmann's camp was unhappy with how few questions she got at last week's Reagan Library debate, and quotes the Bachmann adviser saying she will make clear she disagrees with Perry on Social Security if asked:
"Certainly not," the adviser says. "She strongly disagrees with his position on that, and it's clearly not something that's going to sit well with the people of Florida and Iowa and South Carolina and many of the early states, where there is a large population of seniors who rely heavily on Social Security. For [Perry] to scare them is wrong."

Well, time will tell. Might be best to wait on the outrage until the next debate.
I will say when they talk SS, they best have a plan that is understood by people before they jump in. It is a mess, but most people don’t pay attention like we do.
A forum like DeMints would be the best way to talk about specifics. One minute to answer a question on SS is deficient.
The dems keep saying there is plenty in SS and we are just not being truthful. They love to spout that lie.
I remember Bush wanted to fix it. That went over like a lead balloon. He really did try to go out and sell it.
It will be funny when Romney stabs her in the back and selects someone else.I don't think Romney's going to get the chance to make that call.

As an independent agent in Real Estate I paid into SS all my life, as did my late husband, and those were stronger dollars than they are now. In other words they bought much more than they do now.
I think that if only American citizens were allowed to collect SS, medicare and medicaid there would be plenty of money to pay those who have paid into the program for so many years. Up until 2000 most of our money problems have been all the freebies doled out to illegal immigrants. That is where most of the beginning jobs went to, also. Thus young Americans have a very tough time finding employment.
I w3ould be very interested in hearing what Rick Perry has to say about this side of the story.
I don’t think Bachmann considering her chances for a spot on Romney’s ticket is a conspiracy. As I said, I doubt that Romney is even in the conversation at this point.
But I suspect there is a conversation, between Bachmann and a few close family/advisors on the subject and I think they all agree: at this point, her best chance to get on a national ticket is as Romney’s running mate.
There just doesn’t seem to be any other credible path for her and Romney (assuming he could win, which I don’t assume) would definitely benefit from her (by then somewhat tattered) Tea Party Creds.

It’s a false comparison anyway. If comparing apples to apples, it would read, “Bernie Madoff deals with Ponzi schemes, not the GOVERNMENT of America.” Sorry Michelle, that is exactly what the US Gov’t has been doing. Forcing American workers into a ponzi scheme that will come crashing down if not fixed (and hopefully transitioned out of). Does Michelle Bachmann really want to get on the side of big government when it comes to social security?

Perry’s communications director ... has worked for Perry for years. His wife has worked for a number of people over those years. Nothing unusual in that. It doesnt mean their candidates are running together.

I had read that article and few others years ago but couldn’t recall the titles.
Candidates will be candidates. Perry didn't clarify his position well and Bachmann will seize on it. It has nothing to do with Romney which was my point.
Perry is a good candidate and I think, right now, favored to win the nomination, but he will need to do a better job explaining his position on social security. Period. Bachmann will seize on anything to claim Perry is unelectable in a general election, that's just how campaigns work and primary voters put a heavy emphasis on it.
These primaries are an opportunity to vet our candidates and see how they respond to adversity and controversy. I expect Perry will do just fine, but we need to let it play out and see how he does. What we don't need is a bunch of conspiracy nonsense claiming Mitt Romney is "onboard" with Bachmann's campaign strategy.
Did she say that herself? Has she had a chance yet to challenge Perry? Does she have a plan? Does Perry have a plan?
Can you answer any of that? I can’t.
