Bachmann prepping to swing at Perry (Mitt must be onboard)
Politico ^ | September 11, 2011 | By MAGGIE HABERMAN

Posted on 09/11/2011 10:25:33 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Byron York telegraphs the lines of attack Michele Bachmann is planning on using at tomorrow night's Florida debate to chip away at the support Rick Perry has taken from her:

"Bernie Madoff deals with Ponzi schemes, not the grandparents of America," says a Bachmann adviser. "Clearly she feels differently about the value of Social Security than Gov. Perry does. She believes Social Security needs to be saved, that it's an important safety net for Americans who have paid into it all their lives."

York goes on the say Bachmann's camp was unhappy with how few questions she got at last week's Reagan Library debate, and quotes the Bachmann adviser saying she will make clear she disagrees with Perry on Social Security if asked:

"Certainly not," the adviser says. "She strongly disagrees with his position on that, and it's clearly not something that's going to sit well with the people of Florida and Iowa and South Carolina and many of the early states, where there is a large population of seniors who rely heavily on Social Security. For [Perry] to scare them is wrong."

But I suspect there is a conversation, between Bachmann and a few close family/advisors on the subject and I think they all agree: at this point, her best chance to get on a national ticket is as Romney’s running mate.

Who knows, but that's just guesswork. I think Bachmann wants to win, I think she believes if she can make Perry appear unelectable in the general election, she can become the anti-Romney and win the nomination. Nothing wrong with speculating about things like that, but putting "Mitt must be onboard" in the title of the post was not a good idea. There is absolutely nothing to actually back such a thing up.

[These primaries are an opportunity to vet our candidates and see how they respond to adversity and controversy]

Well, I guess to me, Bachmann has outed herself as lacking integrity so I'll no longer support her. Lying about another candidate's position on an issue is not acceptable. I just cut another candidate from my list. Now it is down to Palin, Perry, and Cain.

So she believes what Perry believes. And Mitt believes. And Cain believes. And New believes. And Ryan believes. And… She just wants to pretend Perry saying something different, to paint him as an extremist.

She's just a crass opportunist like Romney, distorting Perry's views for their own political advantage.

I have no use for those practicing crass opportunism to prop up their own failing campaigns.

Maybe Perry is Mitts stalking horse. I do remember Mitt sticking up for him on something in that debate.

Food for thought.

I posted this knowing I am going to get it from somebody in the Perry camp.

I am battle weary. LOL

I really prefer the Michelle Obama Fashion Police threads.

I can dislike her and nobody cares.

Did you notice the “Huffington Post” and “MSNBC Morning Joe” are sources for the Romney flier?

Sorry everyone. I had to leave and the thread is so long I need to catch up.

But my thoughts while away:

MB’s numbers can’t be good in Iowa (good for the straw poll winner), NH or SC.
MR’s numbers can’t be good in Iowa, NH (like they should be — Perry just won a MD straw poll) or SC.

Romney needs to stop Perry and his only chance coming up to stop the hemorrhaging is to slow Perry down in Florida.

Maybe Bachmann and Romney have come to terms on her possible future in a hoped for Romney presidential term (w/ her having dreams of following in his footsteps).

I agree with your whole post. This format of only giving them a few seconds to state an opinion just doens't cut it.

Actually, Bachmann did a very good job at the DeMint/King event but if she does this it is a very big mistake. Not only is it a mistake, it is a lie.

I just think its kind of pathetic that they promote this Bachmann/Romney rumor while keeping quiet about the actual ties between the Perry and Romney team.

And Bachmann hired hitman Rollins. And Cain endorsed Romney in 2008. And Newt sat on a sofa with Pelosi. And Santorum endorsed rat traitor Spector over Thune. And Huntsman worked for Obama.

If anything Perry should be concerned his chief communications director may not his best interests at heart when it comes to message because of that familial conflict. Perry's primary weakness in the debate was on articulating his message.

And at least Madoff didnt FORCE me to invest in his scheme.

Can I get that choice with Social Security?

I agree. R. Perry's stand on borders reveals what he has in mind for this country.

I find it incredible how many here, pretending to be conservatives, are attacking Bachmann, Palin, and other GOP candidates, saying they would never vote for them. In other words, they prefer B.H. Obama?!

“Are you talking about workers who were forced to pay into the system and now need their money back?”

The way for them to have kept their money was by voting out the politicians who perpetuated the SS scam and stopping the taxes. But, generation after generation of these same people made SS the “third rail” of politics.

For 40 or more years there have been people warning that the SS Ponzi scheme would eventually leave a generation holding the bag. No one can claim he didn’t know or couldn’t have known if he had been a responsible voter.

Now they want “their” money back. Unfortunately, their money was spent long ago. The only money available is money to be stolen from others, including children, grandchildren, and children not yet born. The entire SS and Medicare system is nothing but intergenerational theft.

The “workers” you refer to (and why are we using this linguistic relic from Marx’s lexicon?) are not entitled to use SS to commit acts of intergenerational theft simply because they themselves were stolen from any more than if I were mugged by someone I’d be justified in mugging someone else to get “my money” back.

Entitlements are destroying us, and the biggest entitlement programs are Medicare/SS/Medicaid, which now amount to a sum equal to the entire deficit, or roughly 40% of the budget. What can’t continue won’t. Rail at me if you like, but the programs cannot continue in anything like their present form without complete economic collapse.

Reading that flyer makes me want to vote for Perry. Romney is a flip flopping scum. Let’s see if Republican seniors can see past this BS.

“Keep our promises to today’s seniors.”

First, Perry never said he was cutting current benefits. Second, the “promises” that were made to today’ seniors were to spend $170 billion on Social Security and Medicare combined if you look back to the forecasts when Medicare was enacted.

Protect and Preserve Social Security. That’s a recipe for financial disaster, period. Romney ought to be ashamed of himself.

....There is absolutely nothing to actually back such a thing up.

Mitt is onboard with the same strategy. His team have been saying they wanted Bachmann to attack Perry like she did Pawlenty but she didn't get her opening at the Reagan library. Mitt's running out of time so out go the fliers in Florida and Michelle comes along for the tag-team.

Let’s fix the nomination so you wont have that dilemma, but seriously, not voting to remove Obama in nov 2012 should be a ‘we need to take away your conservative card’ offense.

The AB0 sentiment isnt just nice, its vital for the future of our Republic. (If nothing else, consider SCOTUS appointees.)

I’d vote for a sack of rotten potatoes over Obama.

I don’t think Bachmann can win the primary and if she destroys Perry— we pretty much get Romney (if no others enter).

I love Bachmann and would vote for her in a heartbeat but there is no way she can’t beat Obama. There are too many that have bought the ‘crazy’ moniker (helped along by an anonymous republican comment to Politico, I might add) I hate typing that but I sincerely believe that to be the truth.
(article with anony repug- http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1109/29141.html)

I think with Romeny we could lose to Obama, too. There are too many (myself included) that would have a hard time voting for Romney, even holding our noses. We need all the votes we can get to ensure our objective—no more ‘bama
