The day evil announced its presence [America could no longer remain adrift on a sea of relativity]
Minneapolis Star Tribune ^ | Katherine Kersten

As dawn broke on Sept. 11, 2001, America was asleep -- believing itself to be prosperous, safe and secure. Hours later, we gazed in horror and disbelief as the Twin Towers collapsed in a maelstrom of flame, smoke and debris.

What did we learn? First and foremost, that there is evil -- real evil -- in the world.

Evil regularly resurfaces in history. A generation ago, it took the form of the Soviet menace, and before that, of Hitler and his gas chambers. On Sept. 11, it crashed in on us in New York City, where it destroyed our complacent assumptions about the sort of the life we could take for granted as 21st-century Americans.

This lesson caught us unawares. For decades, our opinion elites had peddled a facile moral and cultural relativism that denied the stark reality of evil. This relativism insisted that all ways of life -- all modes of thought -- are equally valid, and that "tolerance" is the only real virtue. It counseled that when faced with malevolent adversaries, we should express good will, seek to clear up misunderstandings, and consider changing our own behavior in hopes of placating our enemies.

Relativism resurfaced in certain quarters in the months after the World Trade Center's destruction. While the ashes were still smoldering, some members of the media elite, academics and others in the "chattering classes" began suggesting that America was somehow to blame for the terrorist attacks, and to counsel tolerance and understanding.

But Sept. 11 convinced most Americans that evil is real, and that we must defend against it. That day brought a dawning awareness that our nation -- so strong, so free, so prosperous -- is in fact fragile. We came to see that the blessings we experience here are not inevitable, and

Today, our challenge is to remain vigilant, and to keep before us the lessons of the last 10 years. Among them are the reality of evil, the emptiness of moral and cultural relativism, the fragility and vulnerability of our way of life, and our duty to pass on the principles -- and the courage, resolve and public-spiritedness -- that helped this nation climb out of the ashes of Sept. 11, 2001.

Evil (islam) had been announcing its presence all over the world for many years before they actually attacked our homeland. Not enough saw it or wanted to admit it........
Even now too many try to pass the evil off on a few groups of terrorists.

“..it crashed in on us in New York City, where it destroyed our complacent assumptions about the sort of the life we could take for granted as 21st-century Americans.”

If that is so then why are we as stupidly PC as we were on Sept. 10th?

The actual event could be passed off as a small terrorist group.

What opened my eyes was the rejoicing that took place around the world, even in this country.

While the number of Muslims( in this country) that would participate in terrorist activities may be small a great percentage are enablers and would likely join in if they thought they could get away with it.

BTW, something I did shortly after 9/11 was look up the phone number of the local FBI office and put it in my cell phone.

Too many people in our nation would not know pure evil if they fell over it.

The fact that only a few short years after September 11th they elected a Muslim sympathizer named Obama to the Presidency still stands as an act of negligence and jaw dropping malfeasance.

A nation cannot heal itself without self-awareness. On this score we have fallen short. We seem not to want to recognize that we don’t have a problem; we are the problem. Putting it bluntly, Sept. 11 caused us to go temporarily insane.

Typical liberal garbage.

It isn't "self awareness" that heals individuals or nation, it is God. And by that I mean The God of Abraham, not Allah, crystals, Buddha, or bent spoons.

The "problem" is sin - and only Jesus Christ can overcome that - a fact this liberal is not willing to recognize.

Her charge is that we fought back, for a short time, against the evils if Islam. For this act, she lashes out in venom.

We elected a Muslim sympathizer, and her newspaper shares much of the blame.

There is a portion of the population that is (using her words) "insane" - they are called Godless liberals. They refuse to acknowledge God, good, evil, heaven, hell, salvation, and truth.

It isn't the people allowing this, it's the 'ruling class' and in this case, Bloomberg.

[America could no longer remain adrift on a sea of relativity]

Oh, they were able to pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and get themselves adrift again in short order.

And Ron Paul says we brought this on ourselves. In memory of those who died; I say that Ron Paul is a wicked individual.
