Stephen Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson), leader of the controversial English Defence League, has been charged with breaching bail conditions and remanded in custody at Luton Magistrates Court.
An EDl spokesperson has described Mr. Lennon as a “political prisoner” and says that he is on hunger strike.
His bail was set by Blackburn Magistrates Court, where he is due to go on trial later this month for allegedly assaulting a man at an EDL protest in the Lancashire town on April 2. Mr. Lennon denies the charge against him.
Home Secretary Theresa May had banned the EDL from marching through Tower Hamlets. In response, the movement’s organizers arranged a static demonstration, which was held near Aldgate Tube station on Saturday.
Mr Lennon addressed EDL members at the demonstration after traveling to London disguised as a Rabbi. He was reportedly arrested yesterday afternoon after going to Luton police station by appointment.
EDL spokesperson Helen Gower told Luton Today, “Tommy is on a hunger strike and will only be accepting water.”
She says, “He is now a ‘political prisoner’ of the state and isn’t prison food halal, something which Tommy feels very strongly about and campaigns against.”
Activists with the controversial anti-Islamist English Defence League protested outside Bedford prison yesterday (Wednesday) in a show of support for EDL leader Stephen Lennon (AKA Tommy Robinson). Approximately 30 members of the EDL gathered near the entrance of the prison, where Mr. Robinson is being held, holding pictures of the EDL leader and other signs reading “Free Tommy Robinson.” A number of EDL flags were also on display. The protesters claim that Mr. Robinson is a “political prisoner” and say that his human rights are being breached. Mr. Robinson was arrested on Sunday after he handed himself into a police station in Luton for breaking his bail conditions. According to the EDL’s official website, these are: He must not knowingly organise, travel to, or participate in any march, demonstration, protest or similar. He must not send any article, letter, fax or email that seeks to promote or publicise any match, demonstration or protest in the open air. He must report to Luton Police station every Saturday between midday and 2pm. Mr. Robinson was charged with breaching bail conditions imposed on him by Blackburn Magistrates’ Court, where he is due to go on trial on September 29, and remanded in custody at Luton Magistrates’ Court on Monday. One of the protesters told Bedford Today, that their leader had been put in prison “for expressing his beliefs.” Another EDL supporter, Dave Hedges of Dunstable, told Bedfordshire Today, “Why shouldn’t he be able to speak? Tommy Robinson is being persecuted and we are all here to show our support to a great bloke.” The EDL’s official website calls Mr. Robinson a “martyr” and is campaigning to raise fund for his legal defense. Mr Robinson is currently on hunger strike.

...otherwise known as a Drama Queen. The guy intentionally provoked getting his bail rescinded..meh. As much as I can sympathize with the EDL's underlying goals - not in this case.
Then please do some research and you will find out they are not worth supporting.
The answer to extreme Islamists is NOT a bunch of extreme right wing nutters with links to neo-nazis, the BNP and football hooligans, and whose core and leaders have a history of violence.
But your charge of linking the EDL as being neo-Nazis is misguided. The EDL does not want neo-Nazis nor white supremeists within their ranks. Unfortunately, the neo-Nazis are trying to infiltrate the EDL and take it over for their own evil causes.
