I have a severely asthmatic niece; I wonder what she is doing for an inhaler these days.

They still have inhalers for some of the medications, but they don't aerosolize the ingredients as effectively as the CFCs. One of the most effective of the new medications was Serevent; two puffs of this a day and I was absolutely asthma free. Then Glaxo decided that "to save the ozone layer" they would take the aerosol off the market and replace it with a dry powder that you literally have to suck into your lungs. It does have some beneficial effect, but nowhere near that of the aerosol. So, at least in my case, my asthma went from being effectively cured, to being dependent on anti-inflammatory drugs and "rescue" inhalers.

Oh, my, that's terrible.
